The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship! The work I was given was varied so I was able to gain a real insight into what the job would involve. Everyone I met was friendly and welcoming which definitely made me more relaxed, and this continued throughout. The training we received was also useful and was good preparation for the internship.
I definitely felt valued by my colleagues. I was given real client work to do, the same as a graduate, which showed that my contributions were making a difference. I was also asked for my opinion on certain issues which highlighted the fact that everyone valued my input.
I have felt supported throughout my internship. My buddy and manager have always been on hand to answer any questions I have. I've also felt supported by the team as a whole as everyone is willing help. I have received guidance throughout, but have also been in situations where I have had to use my initiative and seek guidance myself (there has been a good balance between the two).
At times I have been very busy, but not overwhelmingly so. During busy periods, I always felt supported and able to ask for help and advice. Being busy was a good way for me to adapt to working in a business environment and allowed me to develop key skills such as time managment, organisation and managing other people's expectations. There have also been a couple of instances where I haven't been as busy, but I've still had acitivities to be doing (online training, Dragons Den Challenge, etc.) Overall there has been a good balance.
I felt that I was given a great deal of responsibility during my internship, which allowed me to take ownership for my work. Although I felt responsible for all the work I completed, I was also aware that it would be checked before going to more senior members of staff.
Key skills such as time management, presenting, and team work will assist me greatly in the final year of my degree. More technical skills such as calculations and computer programme skills will be extremely useful after University, as hopefully I'll be using them everyday in my career!
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was really friendly. Although everyone got on with their work efficiently, it was also a relaxed environment. There were also opportunities to work with people from other departments which improved the overall atmosphere. There were plenty of social activities to get involved with as well.
Overall, my internship was very well organised. The only thing that I would change would be the initial training. As there were only a small number of interns in my department (HRS), we were in the general tax training sessions. Although these were interesting, they were not directly useful for my internship. So incorporating more specific/focused training would have been useful.
We recieved a lot of training initially as well as ongoing training throughout the first few weeks of the internship. I was also able to gain a lot of feedback on my work, allowing my to develop throughout my internship.
Company Parties/Events
The future employement prospects within PwC are excellent and I would certainly love to work there as a graduate if I was offered the opportunity to!
The Culture
There was a great social scene with other interns and within my department. There was a good mixture of socials and activities to get involved with. Being invited to social events within my department really made me feel welcome. And attending the events allowed me to get to know my colleagues better, and as a result made me feel more relaxed when in the office.
As I was living in my 西瓜视频 house, the cost of living was relatively cheap. Personally, I felt that socialising was a bit expensive, but probably because I'm on a 西瓜视频 budget!
The nightlife is really good! As it's where I go to University I already knew the area well, which was useful when going out. There's a variety of different things to do in Manchester, which makes the nightlife great!
There was a lot of opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work, including socials, networking events and sports activities.
