    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed taking part in the internship scheme. It has been a lot more fun than I expected, and has given me the oppportunity to meet lots of lovely people, as well as of course providing me with an insight into how PwC operates as a firm and the type of work which it carries out

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The induction was really successful in emphasising to all participants how important the interns are to the company. Although while working in the office I sometimes struggled to find work to do, other colleagues were always grateful for anything that I did do, and my buddy in particular seemed to really appreciate my working with her.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All interns are individually assigned a people manager and a buddy which means you have a clear point of contact for support and guidance. Many of the people I came across - especially graduates - were really friendly and supportive. More guidance as to specific work tasks would have been useful, as sometime neither my buddy nor manager were able to find work for me to do, however they were always supportive.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varied. There were periods where I had little to do so would spend time on online training etc. Everyone in my Line of Service worked regular hours, meaning I would only work my contracted 7.5 hours a day, which was nice (and differs from other internships which I hear are a lot more intense).

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I wasn't given that much responsibility, but by the end of the six weeks I was presented with basic tasks to carry out independently, for example, calling a client to arrange a meeting, and drafting letters to clients or other PwC Offices. However, as lots of the work is very technical, it would not have made sense to give an intern with no experience responsibility, so I was grateful not to have been put under too much pressure!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The induction was very learning intensive meaning I learned a lot about Tax very quickly which was reassuring as I had literally no previous knowledge. The online training that I completed throughout the internship was a really interesting insight into the sorts of ongoing training which employees have to complete. The WebEx which we were assigned to watch contained some useful 'life skill' sessions on for example public speaking

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was really friendly. The system of 'hot-desking' meant that you could mix with a range of people, and the fact that the Reading Office has a 'dress down' summer helped create a really relaxed atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and there were opportunities for lots of chatting. There was a quiz around the office on Friday afternoons which helped contribute to the happy atmosphere. Coffee machine and regular supply of fruit and cakes was great.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The beginning and the end of the internship were really clearly structured and specified from the start which was good in extablishing the overall shape and what you were working towards. On a day to day basis however I often struggled to find enough tasks to do.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It definitely felt like the company invested a lot in you in terms of personal training. The time dedicated to teaching you basic background information and IT systems in the first week enabled us to get started on 'real' work straight away. In terms of personal development there were lots of opportunities to meet or shadow different people, or attend social events, and thus start to establish a professional network.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are very appealing as it is easy to exactly understand what a graduate role would entail. The company as a whole seems like an excellent employer and therefore is appealing as a firm to work for.I really enjoyed being in the office, and everyone being so friendly makes it a place to which I would want to return for work.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • As an Intern group of ten, we were very sociable and organised lots of meals/drinks/nights out/activities, completely independent of work, mainly because during the induction period we had bonded well, and we saw each other every day at the office for lunch so got to know each other well. PwC also organised a welcome lunch - both to the office and to the department - and while I was there there were a couple of social drinks events which I attended. Having lots of young people in the office I think really helped create a good social scene.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading - pretty standard.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was good, typical of most cities. There was a specific pub which appears to be the regular place for lots of the people from the Office to go, which was good for new people as it meant you got to socialise across departments and across grades.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Other than social drinks I don't think there was much. There was a football team which practised on a weekly basis ad had a social at one point, but this was limited. However, this may have been as it was summer and many people were away or on study leave.
