About You
I thoroughly enjoyed this insight! The only thing that could have improved this internship would be to have had more training/background knowledge and understanding; however, this only comes with experience and time on the job!
I felt very valued during this time! People were always asking me if I was ok, if I had any questions etc. I felt like part of the team.
I received indescribable amounts of guidance and support during my internship. I was thoroughly but clearly and concisely coached on every aspect of the job and so I never felt out of my depth, which was reassuring for graduate role applications with PwC.
The skills developed here will definitely help with any accounting modules I may partake at University in my third year. However, the true value comes in the skills I developed that I will be able to use in the working world once I have graduated. Here, I practiced team work skills as well as got used to the long hours of a full working week - which was exhausting at times but it's life!
The Company
The internship was very well structured, I think this is largely attributed to the large number of interns that come in each time. People are used to working with interns and so know what work to set them and what work they are capable of.
General atmosphere was friendly and not too pressured. It was a very welcoming environment.
I feel like the firm invested alot in me. Eg, they gave us a company laptop for the 6 week duration and also paid for food on occassions and alot of staff were assigned to training us and making sure we were ok.
The internship was a direct insight into the working lives and hours of people working at PwC and so I feel like it gave me a complete understanding. They didn't hide anything in terms of their job roles - complete honesty was the case and so I feel like I know what I would be in for.
100%. In regular discussions with the people manager, the intense training sessions and the invitations to the interns for all events going on in the office allowed us to get fully delved into the company culture. Even being sat in the office as I was when I was on a pensions audit, I got a chance to visualise the genuine day to day culture. Alongside this there are online elearns that are compulsory that allow you to explore the culture.
Very valuable. It allowed me to speak to people with alot more experience in life who were able to advise me on recommended paths to take for my future. I have taken key pieces of advice including "get your qualifications" and "don't specialise to early on" that I will carry with me throughout my career path.
Everything Else
I was paid around 拢2400 and this was expected to cover my rented accommodation and travel to the office each day. Note though that this varies per the office you are working it. Its worth locating your local office and commuting from home if possible as this may work out cheaper.
Everyone was approachable. There were drinks after work every friday as well as scheduled football matches and BBQs for example. I feel I met alot of people.
As mentioned the networking/social event opportunities were alot of fun and a great way to meet many people.
Yes, there are many activities eg after work football, netball, scheduled golf days etc
