    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • From the start, the internship was very engaging with a 3 day training course organised in the first week, we had the pleasure to travel to a nice hotel by Northampton where we networked with collegues and seniors. The work placement itself was quite diverse (sometimes a bit too much copy/pasting) but nevertheless enjoyable and insightful.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Most of the fellow Interns were friendly throughout the times, however you could sometimes just detect several fake smiles within the crowd during the induction in Northampton. Once you get to know the people in your office and then your floor it became really nice and personally I got along with everyone pretty well.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was never a situation where management turned down a question, always very helpful and trying to teach you as much as possible. People at PwC no matter what their position is, how busy they are or what the nature of event is are always smiling and keen to help out (even us, the interns!). Management (the people) is definitely one of the best parts of working at PwC

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • You had a choice: You could sit there and do nothing or you could be proactive and you would always find work no matter what the hour was. At an Intern level not much is expected of you, so if you feel like having a short break then go ahead have one!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As with anything that an individual experiences which is new, you start off doing the very simple typical corporate Excel Copy & Paste work (aka Kopy Pasta work according to PwC intern banter), but as time goes by the copy & paste work gets more complicated, more functions have to be used in ExCel etc. In conclusion the trend is if you do something right then you are given more complicated work (but that is not always the case). Some ‘investigating’ and testing is also present during the job.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am yet to apply the skills I am learning at PwC, however in terms of the Accounting knowledge gained they will surely help me out in any accounting modules at university and allow me to understand the logic of underlying concepts of the profession that can then be utilised in courseworks/exams. Also understand the fundamentals of how various Information System software’s works like and cyber security basics.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Fantastic, as previously mentioned people are the best thing at PwC. Everyone is always keen for a chat to break away from the work for a short while and catch-up over recent events. There are fruit days when free fruit is provided and various other office events.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The general organisation of the internship was well planned and executed however on a individual level I was placed in the wrong Line Of Service at the very beginning and could have been sorted out a bit faster.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Well for the task you perform, your pay is quite good and your first week is a training week and during the course of the internship you are provided with various materials.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • This is a rather difficult issue to discuss, when talking about pay this is undoubtly one of the biggest drawbacks in working for PwC. According to my research it is the worst paying out of the big 4 and as many of you know the big 4 already pay less in comparison to other financial services, if you are living outside of London this would still most likely be one of the best paying jobs in the area but within London if you are living without any form of support, well it will be survival mode for the first one or two years before the salary starts to be at least decent considering London’s sky high living costs. On the other hand the learning curve is very steep and the hours are less likely to be killer (depending on the Line Of Service, however this ‘steep learning curve’ is rather overhyped) and usually PwC employees are really valued on the jobs market (e.g. once core audit employees qualify with their ACA, the phone just doesn’t stop ringing with offers). There have been cases were even gradutes especially in technology get offers they simply cannot refuse, so once again I will mention that PwC employees are highly valued.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • yup, not the very best but decent.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London costs.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Amazing. but expensive.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • not to many, just whatever you organise yourself.
