    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Internship provided a great deal of variety and experience. I enjoyed (almost) every part of it.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The majority of colleagues were extremely friendly and treated me like a new member of the team and not just a temporary member of the team.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Although allocated a People Manager for the duration of the Internship, there was very little interaction from them. My 'buddy' within my team, who I was allocated to work with was supportive when I required it but a big part of the job is to just get on with it yourself.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days can be really manic and before you know it, it's 5pm. Other days it was very difficult to find tasks to do. During summertime many clients are also on holiday so there is very little interaction/meetings/phone calls/correspondence to deal with.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In light of the fact that I am only an intern, I was given a considerable amount of responsibility. I was left to my day-to-day activities and had to source work for myself. The work I was given was certainly not just printing and scanning, although this is a part of everyone's job. I was left responsible for client and HMRC calls and a number of other tasks.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Completing an Internship has excelled my work ethic. This will aid in my final year of studies and will hopefully mean I can work harder. A good work ethic is valuable in all walks of life so this is a valuable skill I will take away from these six weeks. The technical training (tax based) is valuable regardless of whether or not I pursue a graduate job in this role as it applies to daily life.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere varies in the office depending on which department you are in. For example, tax is a very office-based role and it is therefore much easier to get to know familiar faces; unlike assurance (audit) where many are often out on client site and as a result they come and go and do not necessarily get to know the same people for a long period of time. Overall, the atmosphere is a hard working one but is not too serious. There is always time for a 'chat' or tea break within your team.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It would be difficult to find a point to suggest improvement on. Although the initial application process and first week of the internship requires a lot of planning, much of the office-based internship is very reliant on your own organisation as you are responsible for finding work to do yourself and interacting with other colleagues.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It is clear to see that PwC invested a huge amount in my personal training and development. From the initial induction (three days on a residential trip), to the office-based induction (two days in office with further training) there was non-stop training and development. Throughout the internship, the resources and contacts provided further developed my personal skills set and equipped me with an adequate amount of knowledge to complete my internship with a sound understanding of tax.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • From day one (or even before) of the internship you are encouraged to work towards the graduate role that PwC may offer you at the end of the programme. The opportunity to complete an internship provides an insight as to the employment process but also the life of an associate once joining the firm as you are effectively working alongside them.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The initial induction (three day residential) provided enormous amounts of time for team-bonding within the 西瓜视频s who were working in the same office. There were numerous team exercises to do this and as a result we have all made great friendships. The social scene amongst us is great, there are weekly Friday drinks after work. Often we organise another event too, for example, bowling, dinner, pub quiz, etc.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fortunately the office I attended was within walking distance of my 西瓜视频 house which I paid rent for over the summer, so the cost of living was no more than normal to me. Socialising in Reading is fairly cheap, it is more or less down to what sort of socialising you decide to do and a personal choice as to how much money you spend.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in Reading is great. I am also a 西瓜视频 here so know the nightlife quite well. Although I am used to the 西瓜视频 nightlife experience, it was also nice to experience the young professionals nightlife which is certainly different.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are social and sports clubs, although not widely promoted.

    3/5
