The Role
Good perks - lunches and big paid for events
Really good community atmosphere at PwC. There's no social boundaries between levels of management and several times I found myself have a general chit-chat with senior managers and directors. Anyone and everyone is more than happy to answer any question you may have, but are more than happy to also chat about how your fantasy football team did at the weekend.
Feedback and development is huge at PwC. You are expected to go out and be proactive - if you expect to be spoonfed in your career then I'm afraid PwC isn't for you. But should you ever ask for it or need it you will receive help from anyone you need ask.
As an intern you can't expect to get to most interesting work and may find yourself filling in the odd spreadsheet. But at the same time there is plenty of opportunity to get involved in client projects and get a thorough experience of working for the company.
From day one I have been involved with genuine business cases. Some of the reports I was putting together were going to high up people within the firm. But you have to remember that everything gets double checked and not to worry too much about ballsing it up. Always ask if unsure.
Time management I perhaps developed. The work at PwC isn't massively relevant to a Masters degree in Physics. But it was nonetheless a good insight as to working at one of the big 4.
The Company
Always a great vibe and buzz. Always someone up for a laugh when you have a quick coffee break!
This gets a bad rating from me as unfortunately PwC moved my internship dates 4 days before I was due to start - which messed up my whole summer. Once I did start everything has been well organised.
The induction training we were all put up in a 5 star hotel for 3 days with all food and drink included. So clearly time and money invested in interns from the start.
Very. Rewarding company to work for with clear progression through the firm up to a senior level.
The Culture
All of the interns at Man
Manchester is your classic 拢5 a pint, so not much more expensive than London.
I'm from Manchester myself so working there I love it. Scene for everyone - plenty of districts with all kinds of bars and more nightclubs than you could ever need. Some good pubs as well although you have to hunt for the best a bit!
Football, a dragon's den project with other interns from around the country, then the usual drinks every so often.
