The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement in a friendly office doing valuable and interesting tasks
I always felt extremely valued by my colleagues, who treated me as their equal throughout the placement and gave me important tasks to do for clients
I was givenn a buddy and a people manager and both were very approachable, willing to help with any queries I had and always made time in their busy schedules to catch up with me
I had the perfect weighting of work throughout my time at the firm and if I ever found that I had almost finished a particular task, I could ask anyone and they would be able to give me some appropriate and valuable work to get on with. I also had some ongoing tasks so I was never left with nothing to do.
I was given a lot of responsibility during the placement, working on items for clients and being trusted to deliver a high quality product
I have learned how to manage my time more effectively and how to prioritise tasks, which will aid me in my degree studies going into my final year but also develop these skills for when I get a job so that I can deliver high quality pieces of work to set deadlines. The experience of the working world was also a useful insight.
The Company
The atmosphere was focused yet light-hearted, with everyone working hard but happy to chat and have a laugh on occasion.
The whole thing ran extremely smoothly logistics-wise, but I felt that there could have been some more guidance on timesheets, expenses etc and also a programme mmore tailored to smaller offices could have been produced as my tutors for the first couple of days at the local office could not go through a lot of the material they had been given as it was only suitable for large groups working in London offices.
The company has invested a lot of time and money in me over these last weeks, from travel and expenses to the time of other colleagues used to teach me the basics of Tax. I was also given a laptop for the duration of the placement.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
They are going to let me know if I have a job offer very soon and I am feeling confident
The Culture
Not really applicable as there was only one other intern in my whole office and she was working in a different line of service so I did not see her much. The social scene with the other colleagues was fantastic however.
The cost of living in Southampton is very modest and it doesn't break the bank to go out!
Southampton has a number of good clubs, bars and pubs and you are only ever a stone's throw away from a decent one
As it was only a short placement, not many activities were available but there were several emails from the sports and social club of upcoming events.
