The Role
8/10 The placement was very enjoyable. Having access to our own laptops and being setup on all the internal systems meant it gave us the opportunity to work on many different types of project and really gauge what it is like to work at PwC. The variety of tasks performed daily was a huge factor to the enjoyment since the majority of the work provided was interesting. I have also been given ample opportunity to attend client meetings and then maybe placed on project work on those clients meant that we were given relevance to what work we were completeing. There sometimes were days where there wasn't much work provided however, and once all the extra e-learns and other miscellaneous tasks were completed this could take away from the enjoyment of the placement. It is boring when you haven't got anything to work on!
10/10 Being invited to meetings with clients firstly was an indication that they felt confident in their interns. I was always introduced and everyone took the time to briefly explain the context of the meeting. All the projects that were given to me were relevant to current client work and my input was always welcomed and considered. Also invited to team events and to lunch with a range of employees.
8/10 The first week was full of guidance and support and explanations which was all very helpful. My buddy was very helpful on the first day getting me settled in and then is very easy to contact face to face or via sametime with any queries. My buddy also asks how I am doing daily. My people manager less so but they are very approachable so if I did have a problem I would still feel comfortable going to them.
7/10 The first full week in the office I wasn't particulary busy. I was probably asked to do about 2 hours worth of client work a day. The rest of the hours were filled with e-learns/ dragons den project/ local admin, however once these were exhausted I did find myself on afternoon without anything to do. The second week things picked up and I was given a variety of projects and meetings to help with. These in turn led to further work. I was never pushed for time in order to complete anything and I found it easy to juggle the amount of work I was given so all in all I could have been given more to do.
5/10 Every piece of work I was given was checked through and then I could make corrections to it, so it wasn't awful if i got anything wrong. I was asked to make a few phonecalls which i suppose required a certain level of responsibility. Atending client meetings was probably where I held most responsibility, partly as note taker but more importantly as a representative of PwC.
5.5/10 Degree Studies: 2/10 Beyond degree: 9/10 As I am going into my Masters year of my physics degree the work and skills gained at PwC are mostly irrelevant to my degree. Apart from communication skills/networking skills developed during the internship perhaps. Beyond my degree, since I am considering a career at PwC I feel it has been very relevant in all areas. Especially the client facing aspect of the internship. It would have been good to learn a little bit more about tax but otherwise, skills for life!
The Company
Friendly and relaxed. Conversations were regular but not excessive. Everyone in the office was busy during work hours but we would always have lunch/ coffee together. Friday morning we had "Unsung heroes of the week" where colleagues could nominate colleagues for doing something good that week.
Induction weekend in Daventry ran smoothly and timely. Office and IT inductions were fun and clear. No problems with laptops. Everyone in the office expected us and were ready and friendly.
Tutor sessions in the inductions to learn about tax, was set up in a hotel for three nights for this with subsidised travel. Access to online e-learns and Tolley tax tutor. Was provided with own (expensive) laptop with all relevant software installed. Was taken to meetings.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
As long as I can demonstrate I have made the most out of the opportunity I will be offered a grad job. However if I wasnted to chane office or Line of service I would have to propose a business case and then would potentially get throught to a final interview stage which does not guarentee that I could transfer.
The Culture
We would all have lunch together and play pool at lunch. We have been invited to attend after work rugby matches/ pub/ nights out. Looking forward to the teams away day at the start of september.
Lived with parents. Socialising was probably average prices since the area I worked was not London.
Nottingham nightlife is good depending on what you are comparing it to. (Since we cannot go out on weekday 西瓜视频 nights, weekends aren't as good as these)
Invited to watch sport or go to the pub occaisionally.
