The Role
I really enjoyed myself. The best thing about the internship was that I was doing the same work Associates were. The people here treat you like they would treat a graduate new starter in the company and that means you get to do a lot of interesting pieces of work.
I felt highly valued by my colleagues. They gave me a lot of their time in the first week, helping me understand the work we do and why we do it. They were also ready to help me all the time and made me comfortable in the office.
I was given a lot of support. Before I started the internship, I was scared I would not have anything to do apart from making tea for the managers and I would be bored but I found out that it is completely different. I had regular meetings with my manager and they asked me what I wanted of this internship and made me work on projects I was interested in.
I was quite busy. On a few occasions, I left the office an hour after normal hours to keep up with the workload but usually, I would just finish the work given to me during normal working hours.
A lot! I was doing the same work that associates around me were doing and this means you get a taste of life as a new joiner.
I feel my IT skills and my understanding of actuarial work have greatly improved. Since I am doing actuarial modules at university, this new knowledge is undoubtedly going to be very useful.
The Company
The people in the office seem to be happy with their work. They are cheerful most of the time and we get along well. People are also always ready to help. I often had lunch/dinner together with people from my team or with the other interns in the office. There was always time for networking.
It was well organised. We had a first week of training that was extremely well organised and even in the office, the others had prepared for my arrival, assigning me work in advance, preparing for my training, etc. Just one thing that I would like to improve is the training, which I think should be more specific to the line of service of the interns.
The firm heavily invested on us. We spent 3 days in a hotel and two days at the office where we got IT training, Line of Service specific training, etc. We also had regular web training.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Very appealing. At the end of the internship, they interview interns and if they have done the job properly during their internship, they are offered a job offer for the next year. It just means doing the tasks that were given to them and they are given the job.
The Culture
Yes, we had a lot of social events; networking sessions, morning coffee, dinner and lunch with colleagues and other interns.
I lived in uni accommodation here. It was reasonably priced.
It was great. Since the office is in the city centre, I also lived in the city centre and the nightlife there was really good.
Yes, we could join sports clubs, volunteer, etc.
