    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed working on my internship within the Assurance department. It has given me an insight to life as a graduate, undertaking a wide range of tasks with a wide range of clients. These six weeks have given me the desire to further my accountancy career and consider employment with a "Big 4" accountancy firm

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The atmosphere among the colleagues and teams where I was placed was fantastic. Every seemed genuinely nice and friendly - not the cut throat business lifestyle that many imagine it to be! They made it easy to integrate into the team and everyone was understanding of the fact that as an intern my knowledge was limited.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management support was excellent throughout. My personal People Manager regularly contacted me to check up on how the internship was going and to see if I had any questions to ask.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Business was often dependant on the amount of work available on the individual client. However, the majority of the time was spent with plenty to do - there was rarely a moment where nothing was to be done! This was ideal as it helped me gain a wide range of experience, yet i still did not have the pressure of several deadlines which worked excellently.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given full responsibility for the work which I completed. Obviously, the tasks were not always the most difficult, but at times this did provide some real pressure to perform. While this may seem like being thrown in at the deep end, this is the perfect example of what an internship should be - not making coffee for six weeks, but getting real world experience so that you leave informed of what a real graduate job would be like.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • While many of the skills I have developed are specific for the jobs, continual teamwork, communication, seeking feedback and many other skills will directly benefit my last year at university. As I progress after graduation, these skills that I have developed will be invaluable and will give me a real advantage over those who have not completed an internship.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Overall, the atmosphere was friendly and inviting. While many employees were constantly busy and under pressure, people still found the time to help if I was struggling with anything or didn't understand. The social atmosphere was also nice and I enjoyed working both in the office and on client sites with the team I was with.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised, with a great deal of thought put into the process. This was a benefit for both PwC and interns for several reasons. First of all, the internship is a chance for the company to see what we were like as employees and how we performed - essentially a trial period before considering offering us a graduate job. For the interns, to work with a large company like PwC is fantastic for any CV and the oppertunity of potentially receiving a graduate job is very lucrative. Clearly it is in PwC's interest to have a well organised internship scheme for many reasons outside of what I have outlined and I feel this worked well.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was consistently given feedback and review for every project I worked on across the internship. This was of great worth as it meant I could continually improve me work as i went along, taking the constant feedback on board. We also spent the first week of the internship going through specific training to prepare us for the rest of the weeks that were to come..

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are appealing as I have really enjoyed my time with the company and enjoyed all I have worked on. I can see myself working in this sort of environment and will definitely be an option to consider going forward.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • Every week all the interns went out for dinner on a Wednesday evening. This was something we organised between ourselves and has been fantastic for getting to know each other and developing friendships that will last. Constantly staying in touch on social media was also helpful and I have really enjoyed getting to know them all.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I already live in the area, I was already fully aware of the costs. Edinburgh is a fantastic city to work and live in, and is fairly reasonable for costs, however rent is not the cheapest!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Edinburgh can cater for all sorts of social scenes and has a vibrant nightlife throughout the city centre. There is something for most people so is definitely one to try!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • In terms of activities with PwC there were sporting activities that could be undertaken and also we had some social events with more senior employees. This was really valuable in getting to know other employees and feeling involved in the company.
