The Role
The work was very enjoyable and project work was varied.
I feel that my colleagues held us in the same regards as those who were under full-time employment/graduates, which meant we had to assume the same level of responsibility.
Support and guidance was in abundance during the internship. At first, you are linked with a 'buddy' who tends to be at the 'Associate' level, so that there is some close to your professional level whom you can rely upon for more informal support. There will also be a People Manager who will professionally manage your time, expectations and progression during the internship. You will also most likely have a Manager/Director/Partner on your client project team who will be more of a day-today contact and point of support, especially during office hours.
Depending on the project to which you are assigned, the amount of work which you will undertake and the scope of this will vary. Personally, I found there to be highs and lows in regards to work flow, which is to be expected given the nature of the project which I was on. Teams which are smaller tend to be more suited to taking on larger amounts of work per day, however, larger, more corporate teams tend to offer less regular work.
As the work load varied with project, so did the responsibility. Generally, there is the expectation for work to be done to the highest standard possible, with the caveat that all interns will be new to the nature of work and are not expected to have any prior experience.
The training and skills developed would be most useful to academic life in a wider sense. For example, skills such as organisation, work ethic and multi-tasking will be useful when studying for my degree as well as in later life.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is very laid back and comfortable, with everyone left to work as they see fit.
The work placement seemed well organised and put together.
The firm allows us access to all the development workshops that their regular employees have access to. Along with the availability to onlike workshops, the amount of training and development opportunities is endless and limited only by your effort and time.
Working from home
Travel loan
Very appealing.
The Culture
Yes, lots of socials were organised, both at the start of the internship and throughout
Very expensive, but down to being in the city centre.
City is very expensive but good!
Many opportunities, being included on the mailing list gives opportunity to get involved with more than you could possibly have time for.
