The Role
The internship was far better than I could have hoped for. I was given real responsibility for my work, and spent a lot of time with clients and senior staff working on problems. People had previously suggested than Assurance/Audit would not be enjoyable, but I didn't see this side at all. Everyone seemed to enjoy their job and willing to help you with anything, which made for a great atmosphere in and out of the office.
One of the best things about the internship was that you could never ask too many questions, and it was okay to ask the same question twice. I did not feel that as an intern we were just given the leftover work, but that the rest of the team genuinely valued the work we were doing, and it was work that would actually contribute to the final product. We went out for lunches together and spent lots of time together so that by the end of the work it really felt like we were a team and I did not feel like the extra body.
The support structure is very, very good. If you have any questions at all you can turn to your buddy, your manager, your people manager, or your recruitment contact. On the job there was also lots of support as the in-charges jobs are to coach, and they are very receptive to any queries or questions interns may have.
It depends. You can be as busy as you like really. On client site I had substantially more work to do than if I was based in the office (was only in the office two days), but if you wanted to work slowly then nobody would pressure you to stay later or do more work. But if you had finished work people were always willing to give you more.
I felt that I was given far more responsibility than I had anticipated on the internship, and was certainly not treated as just the intern. I was given responsibility over entire areas of the audit, which would subsequently be reviewed by management, and was given the freedom to structure the work as I saw fit, which meant that there felt like there was sizeable responsibility on the job.
Despite not studying a finance related degree I feel that the skills I have learned in the last 6 weeks will be incredibly applicable to the real world. Although there has been a steep learning curve, I feel I have learned an incredible amount about business and finance, and also about networking and working with people of all ages and cultures. In this respect the internship was very good, as it was a great chance to experience business, and people working in business.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very positive. Within the team I worked in everyone was very good friends and got on well, and everyone was very flexibile with working and helping each other. People were very social and the atmosphere between interns was especially excellent. There were office socials and many events between interns which meant that everyone became good friends by the end of the process.
The internship was better organised than I could have hoped, and there was always someone to help you with anything you might need. I could not imgaine how it could have been organised more efficiently.
The company treated you as if you were a full time employee, which meant you had access to all online training and development which was excellent. They also invested the first week solely to training, which meant we had time to grow into the role rather than being plunged straight in. You also set objectives for the internship which were then followed up by your People Manager who followed your personal development.

Company Parties/Events
I would definitely like to work for PwC full-time.
The Culture
The interns were very social, and there were drinks/meals at least once a week, if not a lot more. If you were based in the office the interns would also always meet up for lunch, so that everyone became really good friends.
Not decidedly cheap, but you could get a cheap meal if you wanted.
Birmingham has quite good nightlife, and there were plenty of bars to go to.
During the internship I attended a consulting networking event despite being based within Assurance. Also there were two office socials and we were all invited to join the office hockey team. There were lots of opportunity for activities.
