The Role
I have really enjoyed the internship so far. I have appreciated the training and development opportunities provided by the firm (eg the residential classes, the WebXs), and the opportunities to network. It's been a great opportunity to gain an insight into the kind of work that the firm does and I believe that I know significantly more about accountancy than when I first started,
I have appreciated the times when senior managers have taken the time (usually around half an hour) to explain a particular report or project to me, even if they are just asking me to proof-read their work. People are always enthusiastic to give work to me should they have it, and when I ask for it.
The support given by my People Manager and buddy was excellent througout the internship.
There were several days on which I had a least of couple of hours of no work, even when I asked around for it. I am told that this is due to the nature of Tax work, but there were times when I was very occupied and the internship still felt like a very worthwhile experience.
I was given access to confidential data and asked to do a number of tasks that were chargeable to clients. I was asked to do multiple calculations for clients which sometimes affected their tax burden. Whilst I had no face-to-face contact, I believe that the work I did contributed to the overall representation of the firm to clients.
I think that whilst accountancy bears no direct relation to History (my degree subject), I learned some transferable skills, including time management and data analysis.
