The Role
Being at a regonal office I was able to work on a variety of clients, such as a local council, a law firm and a hotel. I was treated like an actual graduate, and this was portrayed through the work I was tasked with. I wasn't just printing/scanning and fetching drinks like other interns, I was actually involved in the audit process of all firms and given real responsibility.
I felt very valued. I was given real work that mattered on the audit, and was treated like a graduate. I was left to communicate with clients alone which I felt would be daunting, however it was great! I feel this felt that my team trusted me and my ability which was very encouraging.
Whenever I had a question, everyone was more than happy to help. I was always shown how to perform my tasks, and ifI had a problem it was never an issue for anyone to help me. I was actively encouraged to ask a question whenever I had one, regardless of the content of the question.
I was normally occupied for the whole day, and sometimes I had to stay beyond the normal leaving time to finish some work, especially when commuting, however this was not an issue. I was put on jobs for a short amount of space sometimes however, so this meant that when I finished my task, there was a struggle to find more activities for me to do.
Plenty, I was treated like a normal graduate, and was left to communicate with clients independently sometimes, which is placing a lot of responsibility on someone who has only been part of the firm for a few weeks.
I have now opted to study an accountancy module at university, and my experience at PwC will help me greatly, as I am actually able to understand the application of the work, and not just the theoretical side. However, my course is different to the work I did at PwC.
The Company
Very relaxed, most people seem to know each other and everyone gets on with each other well. There is no fixed routine of where people sit and who with, so there is opportunity to speak to more people, it is an open plan office, and so you do not end up sitting in the same room with the same people all the time.
Very well organised. There was a residential induction to settle all the interns in with all offices over the UK, and this helped make contacts early on. We had contact with partners and senior members of staff here. There is a team of people in contact with us at all times to help us with the process and for any questions as and when we had them.
The first week was all about training, and we had three days of the internship in a classroom to give us a general understanding of everything we wanted to know. We were not expected to remember everything from this, and all members of staff were more than happy to assist us with any issues we had. We also had two days of induction at the office, and this involved understanding how the IT systems operate, the printers etc.

Fantastic. The graduate programme consists of completing the ACA qualification, and then there is the opportunity to go on secondment, either at another office domestically or internationally, and you can also change service line, or even go on secondment at a client!
The Culture
We were assigned with 'buddies' who act as an informal contact for us, and they were very helpful in getting us to interact with all members of the office. On my first full week at the office, there was a social, where most people from my line of service went including the other intern, and it helped us to settle in and get to know lots more people.
As I go to university in Newcastle, where my office location was, the cost of living was not a problem as I already had a house sorted. However, the cost of living in Newcastle is low, as are all costs of socialising.
Newcastle is renowned for its nightlife, and so the nightlife is fantastic. There is great nightlife any night of the week.
On my first week I was involved in playing for the football team as well as going on a social. There is lots going on at the office, and this is a great way to meet new people.
