    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I've really enjoyed my insight more than I thought I would at first. Everyone within the company are really nice and really understanding of your abilities and as such, are eager to help you develop these skills. You also get the opportunity to complete real work and go out and meet clients (at least in Assurance) which adds a lot more variety to the role and makes sure that the role never gets dull.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt really comfortable during my time in the office and the ability to work in small teams (such as teams of 1 and 2 people) really help when building rapport as you can get to know them on a personal level which is often unavailable when working in larger teams. Even when working in larger teams (in my experience of about 10 people), you still feel valued, so for example, someone from the office went out and bought ice lollies for the team during a particulary hot day and its really nice to be considered part of the team like that.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • When completing the work, I felt that I could always ask questions about the work without the feeling that I was disturbing the person I was working with. Even when asking questions about the client, I felt like it was appreciated. As such, the environment is really great for a person like me to learn how to complete a task as it feels more like a friendly chat more than an actual question.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I've been fairly busy on a daily basis, sometimes not leaving until after 18:00 but I don't go home feeling fed up from going over time. I enjoy what I'm doing and everyday is just packed with learning which is what an internship is all about and so I feel that, whilst you might be busy a lot of time, the learning you do is invaluable.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was doing work helping the team in real life clients and so I felt I was given the responsibility to actually help the company and the team. I felt that the responsibility is perfect for the role as whilst you are given real work, the work is (understandably) fairly low risk so you don鈥檛 have to worry about doing it wrong. That鈥檚 not to say people don鈥檛 use it for example, I had prepare a list of missing bank confirmations for a team that they then used to chase down missing bank statements, which, whilst I struggled finding them at first, I felt it was a great help as someone else didn鈥檛 spend the time chasing them down.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Being a 西瓜视频 currently completing their Finance, Accounting and Management degree, I feel that the experience I gained in a large accounting firm will be, understandably, invaluable. My communication skills have become more varied through discussions with team members and clients and as such will help in the upcoming years with my degree if a certain module requires presenting/ persuasion etc as well as to become more focused when asking questions. The finance skills that I have completed such as bank reconciliations as well as working on balance sheets and income statements will also help with the actual finance part of my degree as well.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The working environment is great and I can't fault it as it is exactly the sort of environment that I find perfect for completing work in a timely manner whilst at the same time, you don't feel punished if you decide to take a break and chat with a colleague. I felt really comfortable during my time in the office and the ability to work in small teams (such as teams of 1 and 2 people) really help when building rapport as you can get to know them on a personal level which is often unavailable when working in larger teams. Even when working in larger teams (in my experience of about 10 people), you still feel valued, so for example, someone from the office went out and bought ice lollies for the team during a particularly hot day and its really nice to be considered part of the team like that.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Whilst some people work on one client for all their time here, I myself was given the opportunity to work with a variety of clients, which I personally found to be a great help for my development as, in my opinion, working with a variety of clients gave me the chance to experience a variety of industries and tasks that would be more difficult to achieve with one client, so, for example, I've so far worked on both law and construction industries and its interesting to note the differences in the companies as there are some industries people prefer. Additionally, the first week is dedicated to training you to perform the job adequately, even if you don't come from a finance orientated degree, which gives everyone an n equal opportunity in the program. Also the last two days of the internship is dedicated to completing a team project (which is run throughout the internship with other interns) and completing a variety of tasks in preparation of a potential graduate job offer, which is great as otherwise I would find it difficult to perform all the tasks.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm is very keen to develop their employees as they have a particular emphasis on feedback and objectives that you will work towards in your time here that will force you to push your boundaries but in an achievable way. Not once have I felt that I couldn't achieve something but there are things I wouldn't have attempted if not for my objectives (such as performing in a team activity), but I am glad that they was there as I felt it helped me to develop my skills.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to continue working here as there are so many opportunites to pursue as you progress. You have the ability to travel to different offices in different countries (Australia particulary appeals to me) and change line of services if you want to not to mention the various advancement opportunities available

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • Being in a regional office I was one of two interns and so there wasn't much of a social scene with fellow 西瓜视频s although we do get along great. However, I have also had the opportunity to go to the company's annual dinner where there was a bouncy castle and coconut shy as well as being offered to play football and the company's sports day against a rival regional office and so I still feel there is a good social scene within the office, just not as much dedicated to 西瓜视频s.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Working and living in Sheffield, the cost of living and socialising was very low as I travel in every day on the train from my house which is in the local area. As such, I can't really comment on the price of living but the shops and bars in the surrounding area are average priced and not too expensive to put you off from shopping.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As mentioned previously, whilst there isn't a 西瓜视频 emphasis at the office, that's not to say there aren't any clubs available as the town has a variety of places to choose from. After the company's annual dinner, many people went to town and went clubbing and so, despite the low number of 西瓜视频s, there are still opportunities to go out clubbing.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As mentioned previosuly, I have had the opportunity to go to the company's annual dinner where there was a bouncy castle and coconut shy as well as a raffle. This was a great way of getting involved with the company and getting to know your colleagues better. I was also offered to play football against another local regional office as well as participate in the upcoming company's sports day against a rival regional office and so I still feel there is a good social scene within the office, especially considering I've only been here for three weeks so far!
