The Role
I really enjoyed my internship and meeting new people
I felt that my colleagues appreciated my input and gave me a reasonable amount of responsibility to complete.
PwC has a really horizontal structure, which makes it really easy to approach anyone (even people on a more senior level) in the firm to ask for guidance and support. And as PwC likes to put it; this is 'your experience' and it's up to you on how you want to structure your internship. There were also a lot of social events I could go to to find out more about the firm on a more informal basis. It was also quite easy to get someone out for coffee just to have a quick chat. Furthermore, there's also one week of training before the actual work starts.
I was given quite a reaosnable amount of responsibility and hence there was also something to do regarding to the audit. On occasions, I would have some 'down-time' but PwC has a lot of materials that you can go through if you have the time (or just want to know more), a newsletter on current news, e-learns, webinars, and etc which allows you to make use of your time veyr well during the period of your internship.
After one week of training, you get to meet clients from Day 1. You essentially get placed into engagement teams to work on a client for a set period of time. And while you're working with your engagement team, your senior-in-charge will give you a wide array of tasks for you to complete that are directly related to helping them complete the audit. For me personally, I got placed into an engagement team almost immediately and it was a really good experience to be able to attend client meetings, help perform the audit, and also understand the whole audit process. I would say that I received a decent amount of responsibility during my time here.
I felt that it was really good to get myself 'out there' and gather the confidence to speak with clients and meet new people- and that is the greatest skill that I have learned. The training I received in respect to assurance/audit training was also very beneficial as I now understand controls and financial structures better- especially since I was given the opportunity to go 'behind the doors' and see how everything works. On another note, it was simply a great experience to know what kind of job/work I was getting myself into in the future!
The Company
As mentioned, PwC has a very horizontal structure and hence everyone was really friendly
After one week of training, I was immediately booked onto a client. I was also given quite a lot of responsibility and learnt a lot from the experience. When I had 'unbooked' days, I was given a lot of flexibility to shape my experience- I was even allowed to request to workshadow a few directors and attend meetings with them.
We were given one week of training. After that, there were a lot of e-learns and webinars that you could utilize. Essentially, there was a lot of platforms that you cold use to learn.
