The Role
Always something interesting to do - attending meetings with partners, going to clients, or doing research work for the team. Everyone was friendly and very welcoming, and the whole internship was very smoothly run.
As before, everyone was very friendly, and would try their best to find work for me, or offer to let me sit in on calls or meetings.
The support system was excellent, and there was always someone to talk to.
As it was in the summer, there wasn't a lot of work going round, as clients were on holiday, but there was never a time when I had nothing to do.
I was often asked to do research work with little guidance, but this also meant that I had a chance to prove myself by going beyond what was expected of me. However, if I had struggled, I'm sure that someone would have been happy to help me out.
I have become a lot more efficient with my time, and developed better time management skills, which will hopefully transpose into my University studies.
The Company
Everybody worked hard, and some stayed late to finish a particular piece of work, but the general atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. There were regular quizzes and chats about the Olympics and other sporting events.
The training week at the beginning was very useful, if only for introducing you to the other interns for your area. Once in the office, clearly work had been put aside to give to me, and meetings set up that I could attend, so overall it was very well organised.
Clearly the firm invested a lot of time into myself and the internship programme, and there were lots of "development" tasks set along the way. These included group work with other interns, online questionnaires and training, and social events with the team.
I have received a job offer from PwC and intend to start work there next September.
The Culture
At the residential training week there was a good atmosphere amongst all the interns, and I was good mates with a number of the interns in my office. We went for lunch together most days, and regularly met up for drinks after work.
Some places were cheap, but as expected, the nicer places are more expensive.
As it is a large city, the night life in Birmingham is very good.
There would be more opportunities working there, as opposed to being on an internship, as most of these were not taking place during my time there, but I did get to play 5-a-side football with some other guys from the office, and attended a pub quiz and staff party.
