Overview
Worked in Counterparty Credit Risk analysing pricing of risk on derivatives. Day-to-day was a couple of projects through the internship to understand why exposure calculations were going wrong and what solutions can be found to fix them
Skills
Technical: SQL, python, excel Financial: options and swaps pricing models, partial differential equation models Soft: Presentation, collaboration, listening, problem solving
Responsibilities
A fair bit. Many tasks were independent, but requires quite a lot of help from manager to understand. Culture isn't hierarchical at all, meaning everyone is given responsibilities
Support & Guidance
Manager was great. Regular catch ups with manager helped to focus attention in the right places
Culture
Very friendly and caring about everyone's individual growth, both personally and professionally. Collaboration is key, but the amount if meetings is sometimes a bit much. Not what most people would typically assume an investment bank is like, much less cutthroat, and much more inclusive of people from different backgrounds.
Your Impressions
Enjoyed it a lot. I think the firm puts a lot of effort into the programme and making sure everyone feels welcome.
Yes
The company cares a lot about its 5 core values. If you are applying, definitely understand what they are looking for and don't try to be someone else. Genuinely embodying those values is what will get you an offer, not pretending to be that person.
