Overview
Internship project - work with other interns to research and prepare a presentation on a social enterprise. Worked across lines of service and lead up to final presentation day. Work shadowing - shadowed experienced team members to gain a better understanding of their work and role. Completed basic tasks such as researching and preparing slides. Attending and contributing to team meetings. Networking across the firm with people of all grades.
Skills
Became proficient with Google Suite - docs, slides and sheets. Also the the gmail, chat and spaces functions. Improved soft skills such as communication, presentation and deadline setting. Worked in a group but also individually and had to set mini deadlines to meet larger deadlines. Learned skill of networking, became more confident and skilled at speaking to people across the firm.
Responsibilities
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility. It was only 1 month so I did not have time to build up much experience but I was trusted with client work such as researching and preparing slides. I was also tasked with some basic data analysis.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support and guidance. I was assigned a buddy who guided me through the internship and help me with any questions I had. The employees from resourcing were frequently in touch to check I had enough but not too much work to do and ask if I wanted to work on any specific projects. I also received support from members of any team that I was part of.
Culture
I found the company culture to be excellent. Everyone was very friendly and inclusive and there are regular socials both for smaller teams and wider lines of service. The firm runs many diversity initiatives such as Women in Business and Black Talent in Business. The firm also gives employees time off to work on charity initiatives.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my internship but sometimes found the work a little dull. This was nothing to do with the firm and more that I am not sure if this is the industry I really want to work in. The team were lovely and I really appreciated the company culture. I would consider working there in future.
Yes
The application process is lengthy so you must set aside time to do it properly. However, once you get in to PwC eg. for an insight program or internship, it is very likely you will be offered a job. Do your research for the interview, learn about the company's work but also its culture.
