About You
Firstly I enjoyed being able to get an insight into the structure of Morgan Stanley and all the different divisions on offer. Secondly, I enjoyed getting an insight into what it is like to work in each of these divisions. It was also great to hear from the bankers about what they enjoyed about their work.
Hard to say given this was an insight programme. However< I appreciate that Morgan Stanley even offered an insight programme given the early dates (earliest out of all banks offering a spring week) and the technological challenges. It was great to get a session with HR at the end to answer all our concerns and worries given the current situation with COVID-19.
A very good amount. We were given an online learning programme by Fitch Learning far in advance of the spring week to allow us to get our technical knowledge up to date. This helped when it came to the presentations, as the bankers used technical terms that we may not have been familiar with otherwise.
The main information I received was what investment banking actually entails, and this as explained well via the presentations. Some of the information, such as work structure, was very specific to Morgan Stanley, so it allowed me to understand how a bulge bracket bank functions. Given my degree is non-finance, the question is not massively applicable.
The Company
The structure was strong, with breaks in between sessions allowing us to research a division before its respective presentation. It also allowed time for lunch! The programme wasn't too long either, given that we were sat in the same place all day staring at a computer screen, meaning it wasn't boring.
HR made us feel welcoming, but it is not really applicable given the programme was held virtually and there was no networking among peers and bankers. Having coffee breaks with each other, or even bankers, would have definitely helped to improve the atmosphere, but given the set up it was fine.
They invested in us by providing us with this opportunity. In terms of personal training, it wasn't required given that this was an "insight" programme, so technical knowledge was not really required as we were there to learn about the firm and investment banking as opposed to working for the firm.
It helped me to understand that IBD is the division that I would like to pursue for many reasons, such as its long term project nature. I also learnt that Morgan Stanley is a place that I would like to work for, so will be pursuing further career opportunities with the frim.
This was mainly done via Q&A, but there wasn't really a session about culture, which would have been nice.
It helped me to realise that I wanted to pursue a career at Morgan Stanley.
Everything Else
Firm said they would reimburse expenses (hopefully receive soon)
None, unfortunately. Only via communicating on LinkedIn after the events.
N/A
Yes - employees were keen to talk about this during Q&A.
Yes - given the current situation, it was a really good set-up!
