The Role
I really enjoyed the summer internship with PwC and felt fully supported along the way. During my 6 weeks in the assurance division I was given a number of different tasks and jobs, meaning that every day was different. At times the work was quite repetitive but the in-charge would try to not assign the mundane tasks if possible.
I felt extremely valued by my fellow colleagues. Across all of the different jobs they were very appreciative of the work that I did. All the interns were treated as regular employees but expected to need more guidance, which was reassuring as it allowed me to develop my technical skills.
The support and guidance was exceptional at PwC, through numerous different platforms. When we joined the firm we were each allocated a buddy and a people manager. The buddy is responsible for helping us settle into the workplace and answer any small questions such as how to use the printer etc. The people manager was there to help us develop our skills and set objectives which was really useful for the 6 weeks.
Most of the time I had a few tasks to complete for that day. Usually the in-charge would have a list of different jobs that needed to be done so I was infrequently left with nothing to do. On the odd occasion that I had no work to do, it was easy for me to ask around the office and everyone was willing to find work.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility during my six week internship, where I was given a range of different tasks. At the beginning I was doing mostly basic tasks but as the internship progressed I was responsible for completing certain jobs which contributed to the audits. However, the majority of work was quite basic.
The training at PwC was very worthwhile! We started the 6 week internship with a 3-day induction at a hotel. This gave us a chance to network with other interns from different offices and develop our soft skills. Furthermore, there were 2 full days of Audit specific training to improve our accounting and audit knowledge. This was then followed by IT training later in the week which will be useful in the future when joining a graduate scheme.
