The Role
In general, the internship was very good. The company made me feel very valued, and was a lovely environment to work in. The only thing that may have improved it was more consideration from those delegating work to what the interns might be doing, and getting them involved in different types of work.
My colleagues did make me feel very valued. Even senior managers made a real effort to put me onto tasks which I may enjoy when I didn't have much work. The people in the office were always welcoming, and people around me tried to help me as much as possible when approaching new and unfamiliar tasks.
For my time on the internship, I mainly focused on one project, for which I had an excellent team. I worked very closely with management and supervisors, and whilst they encouraged me to participate as much as possible and try things outside of my comfort zone, they were always supportive in the work which I completed. If I was ever unsure of anything, they were more than willing to help. I felt very lucky to have the management that I did in my team. Generally, managers seemed friendly around the office.
Often I was searching for work, and having to ask several people if there was anything I could help with. As this is a quiet period for the office, there wasn't always work that I could immediately help with, but when I didn't have as much to do, colleagues did their best to help me search for work even if they didn't have any for me to do.
I felt that I was given a lot of responsibility on my project from the get go. I was often client facing, and was left to do tasks independently. There were a few times where this made me feel out of my depth, but ultimately the challenges definitely helped me to grow and make me feel more confident in what I was doing.
This internship has made me feel much more prepared for working life after university, even if I'm not with the company. I would say this is definitely a valuable experience for anyone looking to go into professional services after their degree. I also feel that it developed many personal skills, in particular it has vastly improved my confidence.
The Company
The general atmosphere was really good, even when several employees were out on client site, there was always someone you could have a coffee with or ask to help with something that you're unsure on. The company do a really good job of finding people who are keen not only on their own careers, but on other people as well.
During the first week of training the internship was very well organised. There were events or training sessions planned from first thing until the evening, and it felt very well structured and thought through. Some of the time at the office wasn't as well organised, as I was occasionally left with not as much work as I would have liked.
The company invested a lot of time and money into training and development. Particularly during the beginning, we spent a week in training, and part of this week on a residential. I felt very valued by the company, and prepared for the rest of my time with them. I feel that if I came back as a graduate, I would have a massive headstart.

Future employment prospects with pwc are very appealing. The company has a fantastic ethos and a really good atmosphere to work in.
The Culture
The other interns were really great and very social, and given different circumstances would definitely be more social outside of work. During my time on client site with one of the other interns, we went out a few times, but not whilst back at the office.
Cost of living wasn't too expensive, as it's out of the city, but there wasn't much nightlife/social activities going on so can't comment on the cost of this.
Poor nightlife. The closest place for this would be Nottingham, but if you live near the office it takes a long time to get back via public transport
Whilst there were some socials etc, there wasn't much in terms of sports teams or other activities outside of work. Having said this, the internship was short term (being only 6 weeks long)
