The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at PwC and my team did a great job at providing me with interesting projects to work on. Some of the projects I were given allowed both technical and creative freedom so I felt constantly engaged with the work. I rated the enjoyment at 8 as there were periods of time where I had no work to do or I was waiting for other people to respond to my queries.
The colleagues I interacted with such as my buddy and people manager and the other interns definitely made me feel valued and I have developed a strong relationship with them. I would happily work with them in the future! My buddy also organised a drinks social with my team which provided an informal setting for me to socialise with the team. However, I was still only getting to know them so I wouldn鈥檛 class them as family.
My people manager was outstanding! Whenever I needed guidance or advice, he always responded to me almost immediately every time and he set up regular meetings with me to discuss the internship process and how to gather and respond to feedback. He also gave me through guidance for my self -appraisal which I could then provide to members of the team.
It really varied for me 鈥 when I was given projects to work on or when I sought out meetings to attend to I had the perfect balance of work. I was fully interested and engaged in the work without being too stressed about the workload. Conversely, there was also times where I had zero work to be given which left me feeling really bored.
My team gave me a lot of responsibility as they gave me projects to do (such as developing a visualisation tool for the real estate team) which I had complete control and freedom over. When completing work with team members I was also given responsibility for each of the tasks I was assigned. I was not 鈥渞unning the show鈥 as I still had guidance and assistance from my team.
Depending on what career I go into, my technical specialist skills (e.g. the skills I learned for particular software) may not be useful in my degree studies and beyond. However, skills I learned in terms of business and global acumen will help me massively in life as they are useful in every career path.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was lively in the sense that everyone was approachable and communicative and there were social breakout areas where you could collaborate with your team and discuss your thoughts. However, in the desk area, whilst chatting was allowed it was also very quiet which ensured that atmosphere was lively at times, but professional.
The initial training week we had was very well organised where was had a pre-set schedule which showed us where we needed to be and when. This was excellent as it meant that I could prepare for these sessions accordingly in time and I knew what I had planned ahead in my day. However, when joining the team the organisation was worse in that when we were given a job, we would have to wait hours or days to be given permission to access the data we needed on the computer. There were also times where we had to seek out random jobs.
The way PwC reviewed me involved gathering feedback from the people I worked with and writing a self-appraisal discussing what I had achieved and highlighting any development points. This helped me to see what skills I had developed and needed to work on. I was also given access to training courses which helped me build on my skills further and understand some fundamental principles.

PwC are one of the Big 4 companies with an amazing reputation. I thoroughly enjoyed myself here and I see no reason why I would not want to come back. The work I did was very rewarding. It is also very likely that I will be receiving a job offer here which I am very satisfied by as it is a great company!
The Culture
There was a great social scene between the fellow interns! For the majority of the internship I sat with the interns which gave us the opportunity to work and develop relationships with each other at the same time. We also went for weekly social outings after work which allowed us to relax after a busy day at work.
My placement took place in London which is well known for being very expensive - especially for 西瓜视频s who are in debt! I was lucky enough to be living in my family home for this so I did not need to worry about rent but all other expenses proved to extremely costly.
The nightlife in London is fantastic as it has everything a city can offer - there's something for everyone! There's also some clubs and bars in London which give 西瓜视频 prices which can make it easier to go out and enjoy yourself on a budget. There was also some good bars by the office which hosted some work drink socials.
The placement was in London so yet again there was a multitude of opportunities to get involved in work. I personally did not get involved in any as I was only in London for the course of this internship.
