The Role
The placement was good, and the work I carried out was enjoyable. I also very much enjoyed working in London, which was a new experience for me but something that has opened my eyes to the possibility of working there later on. The people I worked with at PwC were great as well
My colleagues were incredibly welcoming and treated me like one of the team. They invited me to team socials, checked up on me whenever they could, and also let me lead my own work wherever appropriate. Their attitude towards interns is far better than any organisation I have worked with before
My manager and various supervisors were excellent in providing me support and guidance during my six week internship. They welcomed any and all questions, and were very caring in how they answered them, no matter how simple they may have been. They also pointed me in the right direction for help in the event that the question was not answerable by them
Whilst working on my project, I was very busy on a day to day basis. The day not only consisted of individual work but also meetings and catch ups which took up a fair amount of time (and this was very much enjoyable). Outside of the project, I was busy here and there but often a bit bored.
I was given a decent amount of responsibility during my six week internship at PwC. For example, I was given the task of presenting my project to the entire team I was working with (20+ people) including directors and senior managers. This presentation was left entirely up to me as well!
The placement was not very related to my degree in Electronic Engineering, as I specialise in digital electronics and hardware description languages. However, the work at PwC did include software development and those skills are certainly transferable. I have also developed my presentation skills whilst at PwC which is invaluable professional experience that I can carry on in all aspects of my degree and career.
The Company
The office atmosphere was very pleasant. There are areas that employees can go to if they want to work in a more relaxed environment, as well as the individual spacious desks that are bookable on a daily basis. The look of the office aids this nice atmosphere too as it is very modern
The PwC internship program is incredible organised. They trained us as a year-group at a residential course for 3 days before training us in our specific lines of service, and all of the training ran very smoothly. At the office, work was assigned efficiently and furthermore the process that took place in order for us to get the internship was communicated very clearly to us as prospective employees.
Working for PwC as an organisation is incredibly appealing. The rigorous recruitment process that they have ensures that anyone receiving internship or job offers is a very personable individual. Also the opportunities for networking available to a PwC employee are very extensive, and chances are you will already know someone who works there!
The Culture
My internship was based in London, so the nightlife was excellent. There are numerous places you can visit with a variety of different events, plenty of bars pubs and clubs, and in general lots of places to explore. Our intern group ventured out most weeks and enjoyed our placement more as a result
