    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed it far more than I expected to. It was enjoyable and fun to spend time in a work environment with people that I did not know and had not met before, and were not similar to the people that I normally spend time with. The work was stimulating and difficult, but always explained well and comprehensively when I asked for an explanation. In short, I would recommend this work placement to a friend who likes hard work at a friendly company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt incredibly valued, through the tasks that were set in terms of difficulty, and through the feedback received. They were friendly and helpful whenever I asked any questions or asked for help. They gave me excellent feedback through an organised feedback system, and also gave me great points of improvement.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support and guidance by my Buddy especially, who was very helpful to me. Any manager who i asked for help gave me support and guidance also. All the staff at PwC were friendly and helpful, and if you make the small effort to talk to them they will give you as much help as they can.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This very much depended on the day. On some days I had something to do all day, others less so. I am not sure if this reflects on my time management or the internship structure. This could be improved by me or by the company by ensuring there were set tasks to completed by certain weekly deadlines, and to have more of a reporting structure to feedback to those in charge of the work that you are doing.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Quite a lot, I was asked to present to clients at short notice. This was a large responsibility as I was asked two days before the presentation, and did not expect that this would happen. I was coached very helpfully through the process however, and sat with other presenters for a day to work through all my notes and everything that I would have to say. I was also given responsibility in preparing a product which would actually be sold to clients, and giving feedback to other interns on their work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The presentation skills that I have gained over the course of this 6 week internship will help me a lot in later life, especially in any future job or career that I take and in university. They will be very useful. I have also gained a lot of contacts through networking, and improved my technical capabilities through time working on technical projects over the course of this six week internship.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere within the office was friendly and helpful, and if I made the effort to talk to a PwC employee they always replied helpfully. The people here are very caring and professional, and if I had any problems or needed to take time off for any personal reasons they were very understanding.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were parts of the internship which did not relate to my stream (Technical) and related more to the Audit side of the internship which was not relevant to the work that I would be doing. This was mainly in the start of internship training, which was largely useful but had some less useful parts. Apart from this, it was well organised.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot in my personal development through the start of internship training course and throughout, in personal talks through the Buddy system. This was very helpful to me and I feel that I have developed a lot of useful skills for later life. I am grateful to PwC for this.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects within the firm are very promising as I have been able to talk to many people throughout the course of this six week internship from different areas of the firm. This has been very helpful in deciding my future career path. I was also able to learn a lot about the international travel opportunities within PwC for secondments.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene amongst the interns over the course of this six week placement, and we all got along really well. It is great to finish work on a friday and all go out to learn more about each other and get to know each other outside of work. It was also lovely getting to know managers over coffee, and very easy to schedule time with anyone at the firm to get to know more about their work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The main downside of this internship is the cost of living and socialising in the Embankment area. It is very expensive, even for London, due to the many large companies that are around here. I would recommend going to nearby Camden for a cheaper place to socialise, but whatever happens, you're still in London, it will be expensive, but it is worth it for the benefits of the work.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was incredibly expensive, but very friendly overall. There are some great clubs and pubs nearby the Embankment area, such as Heaven (nightclub) and pubs such as All Bar One or Spoons if you need a cheaper night. Chinatown is also very nearby if you fancy a non-alcoholic night with lots of things to do nearby and some great restaurants and shows around Leicester Square.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were not that many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work but that is mainly because of the short nature of the internship. Many engineering internships that I have applied for, or more technical placements, are three months or longer so there is a lot more opportunity to really get to know the company. PwC is a massive company so there are definitely opportunities, but you really need to look around to find the ones that suit you.
