    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was a very enjoyable experience. Some highlights would be the culture, the social events and the range of jobs you can work on. I also learned a lot about about PwC and the work that is required as a graduate and how this role changes as you progress in your career.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that my work was really appreciated by my colleagues and this was highlighted in a point included in my feedback. My colleagues made an effort to help me whenever I was struggling and gave me tasks to do that were similar to the sort of level that a new graduate would be doing.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • This mostly came down to the stage of the job you were on and your colleagues for that job. For example, towards the end of an audit, managers and team members were often really busy and it was quite hard to find help. However most of the time, my colleagues would sit beside me and help me with tasks whenever I had any problems.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This can be up and down. Some days you would be expected to be very busy and may have to stay late in order to get work done (e.g. before a deadline, or end of audit); whereas other days you may not have much to do. This can be viewed positively as you're not constantly being overwhelmed every single day.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During the placement you are expected to act as a graduate entering the firm. Hence you will be talking to clients directly and making sure you work at an efficient pace to make sure the work runs smoothly. Having said that you're not expected to know anything going into the role so if there are things that you're unsure on, it is important that you raise this issue with the people you are working with to avoid issues down the road. It also depends on how long you are on a job for, I was booked onto a project for 4 weeks, hence I was able to learn a lot and was given significant responsibility. You are also responsible for making sure you keep busy so whenever you're available for work make sure you talk to someone to get you started on something new.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • A lot of the training involved was based on the software used specifically by PwC - hence some of that may not be as useful unless you are working at PwC again. But outside of technical skills, many other skills felt developed e.g. time management (getting into the work routine gives you a taste of full-time employment after university), organisational skills and people skills are areas that I developed heavily.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was at two different offices throughout my internship - one outside London and one on the edge. Each office can have their own unique culture, but the main difference I found was that the office in London was far more corporate. But the overall office atmosphere is relaxed and everybody is friendly and approachable. The offices I was at had an open plan setting, so it's very easy to speak to anybody when you require a little more guidance. There are no assigned seats so you can easily change who you sit with every day so it's easy to get to know a wider range of people (but you can book seats if you like).

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised. The first 3 days was the general induction training (this happened out of office) - you also receive your work laptop here. The final 2 days of the first week was the office induction which takes place in your home office. Once we got our laptops and various accounts were set up, we could view the jobs we had been booked onto. The length of the booking can vary from a single day to the entire internship. Hence I knew what I would be doing in advance which showed clear organisation.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Every member of staff gets a laptop upon joining the firm and employees can use this to access various training resources such as e-learns. PwC takes compliance training very seriously, hence some of these e-learns will be mandatory and will have to be completed by the end of the internship. But you can take on many optional ones e.g. doing ones relevant to the job you have been booked onto. The firm also organises various residential and local office training in order for staff to learn more complex topics.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • PwC is an excellent place to have a career with. With its great reputation and consistently high rankings in graduate employers lists, PwC is a very good place to work. It is also very easy to fit in at the firm and it is definitely the people that work there that make it a great place to be. Every person is very supportive as they were once in your shoes.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The Reading office has its own unique "New Joiners Committee", they simply take extra steps to help you integrate with the firm and the other interns more easily - I found this to be very useful. Myself and the other interns in the office regularly talked and went out for lunch or drinks together during the week. With all the team-building activities during the induction, we all had a decent relationship from the start. There is camaraderie between interns and I found myself booked onto the same job with another intern as well. Hence we found that were working together and socialising a lot.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in Reading is depends on what you want to make it. For example Reading has many 西瓜视频s (because of the university) so there are lots of clubs and bars that cater towards a more 西瓜视频 type budget. However if you don't plan well you can easily spend way more so it really depends on how determined you are to save money or not. But in general it's how you would expect it to be in South East England.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • This can vary between offices. In the Reading office, there were socials happening on a regular basis. Everyone was welcome to join in with these events. 5-aside football happened once every week and everyone had the opportunity to sign up. The social committee sent out emails and month end reviews to let employees know what events are coming up and how well the socials have went in respect to competitions, fundraising and volunteering.
