The Role
The placement was enjoyable and interesting. The work changed from day to day which kept me engaged.
Other colleagues gave me responsibilities and were happy to delegate work to me and get me involved in current projects.
There's a great support system with both the buddy and people manage at the company who you can go to for any issues that you have.
I was usually involved in 2 or 3 projects at a time which meant that I always had work to do. It was a great balance as having work to do all the time maintained my interest so that I didn't get bored, but it wasn't too much that I was unable to finish things by the deadline and stay late the night before etc.
People delegated work to me that actually had an impact on the project, and trusted me to progress independently. However I still felt like I could ask questions to them.
From an interpersonal and communication perspective, the internship has taught me the importance of asking questions, getting feedback and learning from it, and showing engagement and a positive attitude to the work you're doing. From a business perspective I've learned how to build relationships with clients and how to interact with them. I've also developed key skills such as the ability to prioritise one thing over another and how to manage my time better - which will help me going into third year and also with my career more generally.
The Company
People were very friendly and happy to help. I built good relationships with the people around me and everyone was very supportive of me during my internship.
The first week included a residential training scheme in London and training in our local office. When I started doing actual work my people manager had already got me onto a number of projects so that I could transition into the office smoothly.
The company put me on a number of training schemes and ensured that I understood the firm as a whole and my line of service in particular. Throughout the internship I also took part in training courses with other colleagues.
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
The company definitely provides the opportunity to move up the career ladder, and opportunities such as going on secondment are encouraged and promoted.
The Culture
The other 4 interns and I would eat and spend our breaks together and we would keep in touch and see how the others are doing throughout the internship.
N/A (stayed at home)
The office I was in is not located in a big city which meant that there was not a lot around, however there was public transport to some cities
There was a social club which put on events such as quizzes and meals.
