    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have very much enjoyed my six weeks at PwC. I have a scientific background and did not know much about business, finance or accounting prior to my time here. However, it did not hinder my experience as the people around me were very aware of that. I don't think I could have spent my summer better.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I joined one of the smallest PwC offices in the UK. This was originally a concern of mine as I thought there wouldn't be many people to talk to. I couldn't have been more wrong. Everyone is the office was very welcoming and made sure my experience here was as stress-free and constructive as possible. As well as developing professional relationships, I have made a number of personal friends too.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I always felt like a had a point of contact to go to in case I wasn't sure about something. My people manager called me before my internship started to answer any questions I had. Additionally, I was given a buddy who had joined the firm a year ago. He helped me with the less formal questions such as finding accommodation.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The summer is the least busy time for the financial audit team in my office. This meant that sometimes I had to go around the office asking managers for work and at times it wasn't possible to find any. However, most of the time I was booked to a client which meant that I could spend a whole week or even more on the client's site, working on a particular audit full-time. This meant that I was kept busy most of the time, but had some time if I needed to catch up to meet the deadlines.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • When I joined the firm, I was surprised how much responsibility the firm gives to the interns. I joined the team for a number of different audits. While on the client's site, I participated in audit planning meetings with the financial directors and controllers. I also spoke to accountants and financial controllers about my findings. PwC made sure that during my internship my experience was as similar to a full-time job as possible.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am a science 西瓜视频 and therefore the knowledge of finance will not directly contribute to my degree. However, I have learned many skills such as efficiency and time management that will help with my degree. After my degree, I plan to work in finance so the experience I had with PwC will be incredibly useful.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office is one of the smallest in the UK. This meant that everyone knew each other very well. There is a tight community, especially between the new-joiners who helped me with the transition from university to work. I was not worried about having a chat once in a while and I got to know everyone during the lunch breaks and after work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The training was very well organised. There were over a hundred of interns attending the training so the smoothness of the event was impressive. Ever since I sent-off my internship application, I was very satisfied with how organised the PwC's HR department was. As I was the only intern in my office, there weren't any problems relating to the set-up because there were many people available to help, if required.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company provided me with high-quality training and have made sure that senior staff spend some time explaining the concepts to me. This was more than I expected because training interns must cost a substantial amount of money to the firm. However, in my opinion it is worth it because many interns, including me, are more than likely to return as a result of their good experience.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I had a great summer internship experience with PwC. If I am offered a job, it will definitely be one of my top choices. The only caveat is that the job offer is in the line of service and the office that your internship took place in. For most people this will be fine. However, if you want to join a different line of service and/or office you need to cancel your offer and attend a partner interview (and the job offer is not guaranteed) which can add a few complications.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • There were over a hundred of interns attending the training. We all stayed in the same hotel for three nights with social activities organised in the evenings. The training had a good balance between the work side and the social side and I made many good professional relationships while there. After the training the experience was different because I was the only intern in my office. However, there were many people who had joined the firm recently who were very welcoming and friendly.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • During the training, all the expenses including the travel and food were paid for. I completed my internship in one of the smaller cities that PwC has an office in. This kept the cost of living low and the salary that I received was enough to cover it as well as activities I did during my free time.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As I worked in one of the smaller cities, the nightlife was not as active as it would have been compared to cities like London. However, I have made many friends during my internship and that meant that I was able to keep myself busy in the evenings after work as well as the weekends.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • During my six weeks in my office, we had a couple of friday lunches with colleagues from work. Nothing else was officially organised by PwC. However, many of the people from the office met during some of the evenings for dinner. It was nice to get to know everyone in a non-work-related setting.
