About You
I really enjoyed the Women in Business week as everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Got a good insight into audit and what it is like to work at PWC. It was also lovely to meet so many people from the firm. The 西瓜视频 recruitment lady was very friendly which made things a lot easier. There is also a free unlimited coffee machine!
I felt very valued as the staff were lovely towards me - also we were taken out to lunch twice and had breakfast once which was nice. Also it felt like PWC really wanted me to consider a graduate scheme with them which was great. Also people were very keen to answer any questions I had during the week ( I had a lot!).
In terms of guidance and support, we had the recruitment lady who was always on hand to help us if we had any issues. In addition, most people in the office were very friendly so it would have been easy to ask questions. As we were shadowing and not completing any real work, we didn't need much support in this aspect. However, some of the interns who were here for six weeks did do quite a lot of work and seemed supported.
I think a main skill which I developed during this week was networking due to the sheer number and diversity of people that I had the opportunity to meet. The final interview was also a good experience as I had the opportunity to improve my interview skills. I also got a clear insight into what a career in assurance would look like from trainee level to director.
The Company
The insight was pretty well structured. They tried to plan stuff for us everyday although on the second day our plans fell through as the director was busy (understandable). However, Claire found alternative plans for us straightaway which was great. We had some free time each day which wasn't too bad as we were able to use this time to prepare for our final interviews on the Friday. My final interview resulted in a graduate job offer as well which was nice.
This is one thing which was amazing about this insight - the atmosphere throughout the week was very friendly and open. The Edinburgh office is amazing - a lovely open plan office on one floor. The design is very modern and encourages a collaborative atmosphere. Everyone that we shadowed was very friendly and I never heard any disagreements during my time in the office. We also got to shadow the Christmas party meeting which was interesting.
This was one of the things which was really reiterated throughout the week. They took us through what it would be like to be a trainee, for example what ICAS would be like etc. They also told us a lot about progression after qualification, the ability to undertake secondments and other options if you did not want to stay with the firm. We had a lunch with juniors one day which was useful as they were able to give us an insight into what it would be like to join the firm.
Everything Else
I was paid around 250 pounds which is less than my costs for the week (I had to pay for flights and hotel etc). However, as I received a graduate job offer this could be seen as a good investment in my future career. Also it is a great experience to have on your CV as it isn't exactly easy to get through the recruitment process with PWC and they are a very famous company. I got expenses for the assessment centre but not to come to Edinburgh.
As already mentioned, there were several opportunities. This included a lunch with the other interns (who were there for six weeks) and also a breakfast with the interns and a partner. We also went to lunch with some juniors. Another day we went to lunch with the new group of interns and some of their "buddies" which was interesting. As said before, we got to work with a variety of people which was interesting and good for networking and improving networking skills.
Yes they told us about the multitude of things you can get involved with in PWC - this included football, yoga, touch rugby and badminton. We seen people who had got themselves involved in organising events. We also got an insight into charitable things people had done within the company - for example the PWC panto and a lady who had completed a month long cycle for charity as part of "ride the nation".
