The Role
The Milton Keynes PwC office is like one big family and I felt very welcome immediately. The other interns and I were taken out for lunch on our first day so we got to know our buddy, people manager and others in the office very quickly. The other members of the audit teams I worked with made a big effort to include me as much as possible and as well as work, a lot of fun things happened in the office like the 3pm Friday quiz and curry club. It is generally a brilliant place to work. The only reason I wouldn't give 10 is because some aspects of audit work can be a little dull at times.
Every single person I worked with was really helpful and made sure I had plenty of things to do while I was assigned to their team. When on client site, I was given a list of tasks to complete by the end of the week and when I finished this early, my manager made it very clear that he was pleased with me and valued my work. During feedback meetings, my in-charges always told me how I had helped them and how I had added value to their team.
I have no previous experience of accounting so at the start of most tasks I was given coaching. Coaching is a big part of working at PwC so everyone is very good at it and I rarely needed to ask for things to be re-explained. My people manager was extremely supportive and helped me with anything I might need, while my buddy answered any questions I had about joining as a first year and helped me and the other interns integrate quickly.
While I was booked to clients for most of my time in the office, there were the occasional days where I had to ask around the office for work (and I always found some eventually). Some of the clients I was booked to did not have much work for me to do either, however others had a lot. On one client, I was working at their site and would have work from when I arrived at 8am until I left at 6:30pm without fail.
For the first week or so, I knew very little about accounting or the PwC Aura software so I was given fairly easy tasks and walked through the more important ones. By the end of a few weeks however I was given tasks to complete which were much more important, some of it was was being sent directly to clients. At one point I was sent to London alone to deliver confidential documents to a client so there was definitely a fair amount of responsibility and trust.
I am definitely planning to return to PwC so the skills and knowledge I have developed will obviously help if I join full time. In terms of my university work, I think that the interpersonal and time management skills I have gained through the internship will help in my final year. The Dragons Den competition also enhanced my public speaking and entrepreneurship and I hope that I'll be able to use this in the future too.
The Company
The Milton Keynes office is one of the smallest and because of this everyone knows each other and everyone is good friends. Obviously some people were working long hours on certain clients so morale was always kept high by everyone in the office. I genuinely didn't witness anyone in a bad mood in 6 weeks working in MK.
The internship was well structured from start to finish. There was a 3 day induction in Old Windsor (Beaumont Estate Hotel) at the very beginning where we were given training, then we had an office induction on the Thursday too. The Dragon's den competition ran alongside the internship and we were updated every step of the way for this. The MK resourcing team were very good at getting us booked to clients too
Obviously as interns we're not starting ACA training yet so really it was just a bit of Aura training. During the induction we were taught a little about accounting and PwC software too. The main investment the company made was paying us to work here and gain the experience of actually working in Audit. It also gave us the chance to establish relationships with people before we even join full time.

I'm fairly sure that I would like to work for PwC in the future, they genuinely are a very good company in terms of the people who work there and how they are treated.
The Culture
Yes! There were 3 other interns in MK during my in take (2 assurance, 1 tax). We all became friends very quickly, went to lunch together every day and went out for cocktails on a few occasions. Part of the PwC recruitment process is basically a personality test - no one that works here is difficult to get along with. I also carpooled with colleagues who already work at PwC permanently and I was invited to a number of parties and events.
Milton Keynes is cheap compared to the surrounding area so the wage/living cost ratio is one of the best in the country if you work at PwC. I do not live in the area and had to rent, but it was just about affordable on internship wages when I added on the remainder of my 西瓜视频 loan. I wouldn't call it cheap, but it is cheap for the south east, and there are plenty of affordable places to eat/drink.
There are a few good bars but I didn't go to/hear of any night clubs during my time here.
Yes - Milton Keynes office organises lots of activities outside the office including Monday night football, Lacrosse, Curry Club etc. Unfortunately, my internship ends before the Assurance away-day which I've heard is meant to be very fun. There is also a summer ball and lots of people go out for drinks together after work too.
