The Role
I had the best time during my placement and met the most amazing people. Everyone made me feel so at ease and I enjoyed myself so much that I didn鈥檛 want to leave. It was even better than I had expected and I already can鈥檛 wait to come back to start my graduate place.
The teams within PwC are incredible at making you feel so worthwhile and valued. The element of feedback from your in-charge is a great feature as it always makes you feel appreciated for the work you have completed, and totally boosts your mental attitude. I feel that due to this, it was easy to make relationships with fellow team members.
During the induction training you are told 鈥渘o question is a stupid question鈥 and to ask as many questions as possible. To begin with I think people fear that they may become annoying if they ask too many questions, however this was never the case. My in-charges were always on hand to deal with any problems I had, and always made me feel comfortable to say that I was having difficulties. I couldn鈥檛 have asked for better support and guidance.
During my internship there were times that my in-charges had ran out of things for me to do due to the stages in the audit process that they were at, however there were always admin tasks which I was able to complete; such as e-learns or the dragons den challenge. As soon as they had found me something audit related I would switch automatically back to the job. The variation was also a bonus.
As time went on I feel that my in-charges were able to give me more challenging tasks and were able to trust me to complete the tasks given to me on my own. By the end I felt I had developed from being unskilled and nervous to take on responsibility, to being excited for a new challenge and take on more responsibility.
I study accountancy and finance at university and have chosen to do an audit module, following my internship. I believe the skills I have developed and the experiences I have had within audit will help me to be successful in this module, and help me to achieve higher grades than I would have without the internship. Also, having gained the graduate offer, I feel I will be able to apply the basic skills I have gained can be reapplied when I return to study and work.
The Company
The atmosphere of PwC Edinburgh is amazing, everyone is so friendly and makes you feel welcoming. Originally, as interns, we were a bit scared heading into a big office on the first day, but we quickly realised that there was nothing to be concerned about as people couldn鈥檛 be any friendlier. Due to this, there is quite a happy, enjoyable atmosphere in the office.
I felt as a whole, the internship was very organised and well implemented within the organisation. I think the training at Windsor was a great way to start the 6 weeks in terms of learning how to interact and network with colleagues. The local office induction was also great to break us into the working life gently. This step by step process was a great way in increasing confidence and making us all feel comfortable in the environment, and the fact that we also had already made friends with each other, as fellow interns, made it even easier.
Having spent six weeks within the firm, I feel even more encouraged than ever to work within the firm. Within my internship I have been able to ask all the questions that I had about working in the firm in the future, and now I am so happy to be accepting a graduate placement.
The Culture
The induction training at Windsor gave us all an opportunity to build up relationships before we started work, meaning that when we were in the office we were a good support network for each other. From this we built amazing friendships, going for meals and drinks together often. We also took part in any office social activities, such as end of month drinks, building up an enjoyable social life within the office.
