    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall, I really enjoyed this internship. There was a three day training induction in which I got to meet all of the other interns, so it was good starting work already knowing a few faces. Alongside my main computing work I was also able to do some work shadowing which was an interesting experience. I would highly recommend this internship.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team was extremely welcoming and inclusive from day 1. They were always willing to help me and answer my questions. There was also a good social side, which allowed me to get to know them better than if I had only seen them in the office. I was given real work and so was able to make an actual contribution to the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given clear tasks to complete throughout the internship, and would be given the necessary help in order to do them. If an area of work particularly interested me, I felt that I was able to ask for training int this area. I was given sufficient training before beginning work, so felt like I knew the basics before properly beginning work.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy on a daily basis. The nature of the work was lots of smaller jobs, rather than working on long projects. This meant that after finishing a piece of work, there would be another piece I could pick up and work on. At the same time I didn't feel overwhelmed and knew that I could ask for help if the work got too much.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was producing real work for clients and so I felt that I was making a genuine contribution to the team. Generally the work I was doing followed a fixed process, however, so although I was helping the team with producing work for clients, the final product was essentially the same as if another employee had done it. All of my work was checked by a manager and sent k to me if there were mistakes.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My role was computing based and had a large focus on handling data. This should help me with my physics degree which involves modelling systems using computer programming, as well as thoroughly analysing experimental data. I felt that I developed these underlying skills, but the particular application was using a software system that I am unlikely to use in my degree or beyond, unless I continue in the same role after I graduate.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was great. Everyone I met was really friendly, and they made an effort to make me feel welcome. There was a collaborative atmosphere amongst my team, where colleagues would help each other if anybody was struggling. There was a strong team atmosphere in my line of service, but I also got to know plenty of people from other lines of service.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was extremely well organised. There were three days of training in Windsor, as well as two days of in office training. This gave me a chance to meet the other interns, and made me feel like I had a general understanding of what I would be doing before I started. There was always work for me to do.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested heavily in me. I was given lots of training, and so learned a wide range of technical skills. Other employees were always willing to spend time helping me, and I was given the chance to shadow some senior members of staff. Overall, lots of time was spent on my development.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The employment prospects are positive. They take on a very high proportion of summer interns onto graduate schemes. From then on, there is a clear upward trajectory that is possible within the firm. There is also the chance to move between office and lines of service, although this would come later down the line and not immediately after the internship.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene. There were 5 interns in the office and we went out for drinks regularly after work, as well as playing football.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • My internship was in the centre of Newcastle, in which rent, food and drinks are cheap.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Newcastle is great. There are loads of pubs, bars and clubs, which are really cheap.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a few sports teams, so I played football after work.
