    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I think it was a good all round experience which I really enjoyed, not only did I learn a lot about both internal and external audit and the work PWC carry out but I also connected well with my colleagues and developed what I hope are good working relationships throughout my placement.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by various teams I worked with. This was most notable whilst out on site at Glendinning, where the team dynamics were particularly positive and the feedback at the time and later highlighted to me that I made a contribution to the team and hence that I was valued.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I received good local support on the account work from the teams I worked with. My people manager made time to meet with me on a planned basis including when he was on holiday. Overall I felt supported and able to raise questions when I needed advice or extra work.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload varied greatly day to day. Some days I would have lots of work which would keep my busy not only for that day but the days following as well. On other days managers would have less work for me due to the nature of the work they had remaining on a client.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From my second day in the office I had tasks assigned to me for example working on payroll on West Pharma. Throughout my placement my tasks were varied and in many cases were part of the work we needed to undertake for the client. I was able to directly talk to the client when appropriate about samples for instance.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel my placement will help me significantly in two areas of my degree; firstly as I take an accounting degree the knowledge and experience I have gained about Audit will be highly valuable to me in my final year, secondly I feel this placement has improved my time management skills which will be of value to me in my final year of university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The Plymouth office is a small, tight knit office where everyone knows each other. It is a very friendly environment to work in, where many of the office often go out together for lunch or drinks. Everyone in the office is very happy to answer any questions you may have or help with any problems.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well structured starting with the 3 day induction in Windsor and then some time with Damon on my first day in Plymouth. My placement was well thought out to give me an end to end view of an audit covering planning, carrying out part of an audit on various client sites and completion work.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • PwC held a residential induction for the first three days of the placement, which taught all of the interns about the basics of accounting and the systems we would be using throughout our placement. Long term PwC invests a lot of time and money into their graduates in order to train them and enable them to qualify.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • My experience over the last six weeks has confirmed that I would like to work for PWC in Plymouth if the opportunity arises. I would hope to both exam and time qualify and progress a career within PwC as PwC will give me the best platform for progressing my professional development.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • Unfortunately due to the small nature of the Plymouth office I was the only intern during my placement. However my colleagues and I often socialised outside of the office, including us going for lunches on Fridays and drinks for both birthdays and leaving dos. The Plymouth office also carries out a office tour in early summer which sounds like a lot of fun.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I interned in Plymouth, in general Plymouth has a relatively low cost of living. However as a 西瓜视频 at Plymouth university my living costs were reasonably low due to the fact for five out of the six weeks of my placement I was able to remain in my 西瓜视频 accommodation.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Plymouths nightlife is okay during the summer but as I am aware as a 西瓜视频 at Plymouth the nightlife during term time is much better.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I often socialised outside of the office, including us going for lunches on Fridays and drinks for both birthdays and leaving dos. During the time I was in the office we also had an office meeting day in which we went bowling and got to see everyone outside of an office environment.
