    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship at PwC. I was given a wide variety of interesting work and everyone I met was friendly and supportive. Throughout the six weeks, I learnt much more about the process behind deals and I felt that my business acumen developed as the weeks progressed. I would definitely recommended pursuing an internship in deals at PwC to anyone interested in learning more about the deals process.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues throughout the process. My colleagues made sure to give me regular and useful feedback whenever I completed work for them and I felt like the work that I was doing was actually helping them in some way and adding value to the business. I was always made to feel welcome at the team socials and regularly included in their lunch plans.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support given throughout was very good. I always knew I would be able to ask someone any questions I had. I was given a buddy of a couple of levels above who was able to introduce me to people and give her experience from a junior level. I also met with my people manager once a week to discuss the work I was doing. I was able to ask him questions and talk about how I was finding the work, as well as arrange other things I might want to do, for example speak to partners about their career path.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload varied considerably depending on business need. During the first week, I was much quieter, but as people in the team started to get to know me and get me involved in their projects, the workload picked up considerably. During the middle of the internship, I occasionally worked past the official working hours or did some work from home, but this was not an issue and the work was appreciated.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Throughout the internship, I felt I was given the correct level of responsibility for each stage. I always had my own tasks to do with deadlines dictated by business need, which ensured I felt a sense of responsibility for the work I was doing. Over time, I was given more responsibility and helped with much of the managing of overseas teams. I sent emails to various PwC teams myself and communicated with more senior members of the firm.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although my internship was not explicitly related to my degree course (History), I felt I developed many useful skills for beyond university. During my internship, my general business understanding developed significantly and the ability to see how the deal process occurs means that I have a greater insight into the smaller parts of business world. I also developed many useful skills in terms of business development and tips for using excel.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was very friendly and positive. Everyone would take the time to talk to each other about their weekends and talk about things other than purely work. However, there was still the sense that a lot of work was being done and during the particularly busy part of my internship, the atmosphere was a bit more fast-paced and buzzy. Outside of the office, at the work socials, everyone was very friendly and fun.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Generally, the internship was set up very well. We had a strong residential induction at the beginning to learn more about PwC in general and our specific line of service. However, perhaps it may be helpful to have slightly more structure throughout the rest of the placement. Friends doing similar placements have had weekly sessions to learn about a specific area or planned socials with the interns.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Generally, the firm invested quite a lot in the interns. We spent five days training at the beginning of our six weeks, three days on a residential with all the PwC interns and two days in our home office. During the training, we learnt about the various subsections within tax at PwC and had ample opportunity to talk to people from a range of areas. I was also given the opportunity to attend various different training programmes that the Associates were attending which gave me a good insight of what the training would entail as a graduate.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects seem quite good within the organisation. I was offered a graduate job and many people I know interning at the same time were also offered graduate jobs. We discussed a wide range of different careers options as well and ways in which I could stay at PwC but work in a different area and whether that is something in which I would be interested. In general, PwC seems quite flexible and keen to take on graduates.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst the fellow placement 西瓜视频s was not great. This was mainly due to the fact that there were so many of us, but we rarely encountered each other in the office and there were no further intake activities after the first week. We did occasionally go for drinks after work. The social scene amongst my colleagues was much better, however, and this made up for the social scene. I was invited out to drinks and lunches and there were three PwC events in the six weeks I was in the office.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Socialising in London was quite expensive and, particularly around the London Bridge area, drink prices and entry prices were quite expensive. The cost of living was also very high, but as I currently attend a university in central London, I am used to these costs and was able to live in my university flat. However, interns based in the London offices were paid more than those in the regional offices which helped these costs somewhat.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The Nightlife in London is really good. Although the office was very much in the city, corporate area, it is not too far from areas like Shoreditch and Peckham which offer a wide variety of places to socialise. There was also lots of good bars closer to the office to socialise in after work. All of the PwC organised events were held at good locations around London and were very enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • In terms of organised activities like sports clubs and societies, there were definitely opportunities to get involved, but you needed to find someone who knew about your particular interest to point you in the right direction. However, I believe PwC is now working on an app to make it easier to find out about these opportunities. More informally, there were lots of opportunities to get involved in social activities outside of work, for example going to drinks.
