The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed me six week internship at PwC. The main reasons for this are, firstly, the way in which the internship is organised including the 3 day residential and also the staff who make you feel welcome from the get go and are always available to ask questions.
As previously stated, this was one of the main factors in my enjoyment and success of the internship. The staff at PwC were extremely friendly and would always take time out of their working day to answer any queries or tutor on new concepts. Alongside this, the buddy system is hugely beneficial and they are always on hand to answer any questions from a new joiner鈥檚 perspective. Both these aspects contributed to a very enjoyable internship.
There was always support and guidance on hand from both managers and supervisors. Having meetings with your people manager is a great opportunity to present feedback received and for them to tell you how to go about the role going forward. In terms of guidance, I was tutored on items I wasn鈥檛 sure on and then encouraged to work by myself and ask questions once completed. This method of working was very beneficial as it was both challenging but rewarding as well.
Another positive about the internship was that I was always busy. Although the summer months are traditionally quieter, there was always work available. This meant I got to experience working with a number of different clients on numerous aspects of work. If the work on one particular client was finished, there would be different work on another client that needed doing as well. For this reason, I was kept busy throughout my internship.
Another positive about the internship programme is that you are treated as if you were a graduate joiner rather than a summer intern which is beneficial for both you and PwC. By treating us like graduate joiners, we were given client work from day one which was slightly daunting, but the work goes through different review stages before being submitted! Also, talking to and working directly with clients is another big responsibility given.
For my degree I have received and developed a number of skills which will be transferable to my degree and studies after university. From my internship I have developed on prior accounting knowledge and received tutoring and training on new concepts which I will be able to apply towards my degree studies. Also I have acquired new Excel knowledge and developed the skills I already had, which will be useful for my degree as I use Excel on a regular basis.
