    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was enjoyable where it rewarded educational value from its theoretical components and practical application to holistically form a full picture of the nature of the work. Mini lecture sessions were interspersed throughout the internship led by various colleagues to foster interaction and allow us to learn more about different aspects of the work involved. The culture which encouraged inquisitiveness was also highly rewarding provided that I was interested in the subject matter. However, I believe that more variety in the type of projects to work on would have been valuable to expose interns to other teams in the department and clients involved.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were generally friendly and willing to help out by providing shadowing opportunities when asked. However, most colleagues were also too busy to interact with interns on a daily basis as they were not available in the office during the summer period or preoccupied with intense workload. This led to most guidance being most wisely sought from a limited pool of individuals who had work that was directly relevant to what I did.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My people manager was immensely helpful and provided regular guidance throughout the internship in the form of feedback, objective-setting and reflections. Some senior colleagues were also eager to provide assistance when asked questions regarding the nature of their work. However, I felt that more support could have been provided by my buddy and the resourcing team who I rarely interacted with beyond the first two weeks as they were extremely busy.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a fair amount of work on most days when I was a given a large task to handle alongside daily mandatory quality checkups. However, I had found myself idle at times after the completion of a major task nearing the end of the day when everyone was mostly too busy to give me anymore work to do. I devoted this idle time to working on my research project which I was required to present on at the end of my internship.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The scope of my responsibility was fairly significant as it involved the preliminary stages of the entire workflow process. I was required to perform my task in order for my colleagues to proceed with the processing of the information derived from my efforts. I was also in charge of quality-checking and documentation work that was integral to the operations of PwC as an audit firm that prioritized consistency and accuracy in its work.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I managed to hone problem-solving skills to develop a technical mindset when approaching issues. The ability to troubleshoot database problems calmly and utilise Excel to its fully capacity were examples of skills that I developed from my work in the internship.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The culture in the office was generally amiable as it was an almost flat hierarchy when colleagues of different seniority levels interacted with one another. The drawbacks of it are most linked to the ineffectiveness of the hot desking system as most employees would still claim their seats. Thus, there was not much opportunities for rotating to interact with new people on a daily basis.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The residential induction was highly commendable as it was a warm welcome for all interns into the internship. However, the level of planning throughout the course of the internship was lacking in terms of ensuring that a constant stream of work was made available for interns to shadow in. Aside from an idea formation platform which enabled virtual interaction for interns across different offices, not many opportunities were created for interns to regroup and reconnect beyond personal means.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were e-learning platforms which kept my busy for the first few days of the internship. The highlight of the training involved is attributed to the mini lecture sessions that were held by senior colleagues throughout the internship on different topics. The level of informativeness of these sessions varied depending on the amount of effort the senior colleague put in but they were mostly one-sided with a final Q & A session which required me to be proactive to make the most of them.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The department which I worked in within forensics is definitely in need of capable individuals as there is a lack of manpower. Opportunities for career growth also exists as PwC rewards its employees based on a streamlined feedback system that enables anyone from a junior, peer or senior level to provide feedback for your work performance. The conditions needed to be recognised for your capabilities is also clearly outlined by a guiding people manager and online resources.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene among interns who organised internal pub outings from time to time. However, it was very exclusive and not made to be widely known. There is a mutual chat group which interns would make invitations sometimes for outings but it mostly pertained to a limited social circle only.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Most company social events were sponsored so they did not cost much aside from self-funded travel if necessary. Takeaway food around the area is decently-priced and is fairly standard for living in central London which I'm already accustomed to since I study at a university nearby. The company cafeteria also serves food for value with variety.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I'm not one for nightlife but there are a fair few pubs which are still open once working hours have finished. It appears to be fairly active and popular among the office workers nearby. However, since the office is located near a train station it also detracted from a relaxing atmosphere where there were many passers-by.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a fair amount of opportunities to attend webinars, forums, roadshows and intern-based focus groups which were not directly related to my work. As an intern, I was given equal treatment to a full-fledged employee through these opportunities to partake in activities which were relevant to my interest, such as a VR and AR conference.
