The Role
Overall the internship was thoroughly enjoyable and I was exposed to a wide variety of work and sectors (from private care to distribution). There was (and will continue to be) a strong community of interns at PwC, all of which are supportive and eager to have a good time. We went out in London most weeks and often went for lunch together. Whilst the work itself did not set my soul on fire (I feel like the work I was doing could have been done by most handy people), I can see that in the future, the work has a lot of potential to be rewarding and stimulating. Having said this, the intern summer project has been something that I've thoroughly enjoyed (great opportunity to meet people as well as develop skills and learn) and would encourage all interns to get involved in the future.
I couldn't have felt more welcome. This was primarily down to my Buddy and my People Manager (whose role is to guide you and offer support throughout the internship) giving their time for me to learn as much as I could. The rest of my team were also extremely inclusive, always asking my opinion and being chatty in and out of the office. Not once was there a time when I felt that I was 'just an intern'.
Fantastic. My Buddy, who's job is to answer any questions I have from day 1, went above and beyond the requirements of her role. She got my involved with a really interesting and substantial project, as well as arranging meetings for me with all the partners in the team. She also took the time to sit down with me weekly to catch up on what I'd been doing and get some feedback. My People Manager was very chilled out and, whilst he never held my hand and walked me through something, he always gave nudges and opportunities to learn that for me were measured perfectly. There is a real sense here that learning is the most important thing.
For the majority of the 6 weeks I was working solid 9-5 (with lunch) on projects or events that were not only substantial but also really interesting. There were maybe 4 days where I was bored due to little or no work, but there are opportunities to reach outside your immediate team and work on something new.
I was given about as much responsibility as I expected from the internship. I had a particularly substantial job (lasting the majority of the internship) which was mainly self-driven - having been given the responsibility by a Senior Manager at the end of my first week. Having said this, my experience of other projects going on in the team was fairly peripheral as I helped out on smaller tasks.
Undoubtedly skills for life. Tricks in Excel and Powerpoint that are extremely useful for workflow are minor points to make. More importantly, I've learnt about how to be more efficient with the time of day, as well as my presenting skills and ability to speak in front of other people. The area for me that has been most developed is my knowledge of finance/business. Coming from a non-finance background, I was given support from day 1 on financial knowledge, and feel like I've developed a pretty solid base that will help me during my masters.
The Company
Incredibly friendly. The sense of team in the office is tangible - there is literally nothing more important and I think this is the one thing I enjoyed most. There was always banter flying around and Friday afternoons were always enjoyable; but when the office was busy with work, everyone is able to focus and get on with the job at hand. There's definitely a sense of your team being really good mates with each other.
From the 西瓜视频 induction to the last day, the internship organisation was seamless and professional. Someone was always on hand to answer any questions, and we were given just the right amount of information in our first few days to get us started at the office. As well, throughout the whole internship, the organisers regularly got in touch with updates and help.
I felt like everyone in the team was invested in helping me learn as much as possible, and there was never the sense I was 'just an intern'. Particularly my buddy, who wasn't required to do so, she encouraged feedback gathering and told me about opportunities within the firm that might contribute to my development (events or chats with senior people in the office).

Appealing. Although, the thought of an 18 month audit rotation is something slightly mind-numbing. There's a lot of opportunity at PwC to develop yourself and your future career. Personally, I'm interested in sustainability and climate change, and so a lot of support, from within my team in Deals, has been given to me in order to pursue this.
The Culture
The social scene was one of my favourite things about the internship. On my first day in the office, my team took me out for lunch, and we regularly went for drinks / office parties after work. There was also a strong intern social scene. We had a London whatsapp group which we used to arrange sports meets and drinks/clubs at the end of the week.
Expensive. I worked in More London (Southwark) which is borderline outrageous at some places (like most of London). Lunch was pretty expensive (I bought it most days) and drinks at certain places near the office were priced very high. My advice would be to not let this get in the way - the socialising with my team / interns was not only fun but also a great way to network and meet new people.
In the area I worked, I didn't go to any clubs (there are better and cheaper places in other areas of London), but there are some good bars and restaurants that we went to a few times. London Bridge is also really well connected to there are no issues with staying out late!
The intern whatsapp group was used loads to arrange drinks and nights out every week, as well as sports meet ups to play things like football and tennis. The team often had birthday drinks or team drinks and I was obviously invited to all these, which was a lot of fun and added to the feeling of inclusion within the team.
