    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The week I spent in PwC cyber was probably the best work experience I have ever had so far; I thoroughly enjoyed it and it has made for an incredible moment for learning, training, and meeting incredible people. The work was extremely interesting, very varied, and there were no boring moments. There was always a chance to shadow someone or discuss things in every single side of the practice in addition to my own task, which in itself was challenging but definitely enjoyable and was a good chance to practically apply my skills and try my hand on the work. Everything from the team to the workplace atmosphere to the actual job was really positive and leaves me with very good memories too.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Despite the placement being short, it was a fantastic opportunity to learn in practice and actually work on a small project. Receiving a task to work on throughout the week made me actually feel valued and like I was contributing to the division's work. The fact that colleagues were interesting in discussing with me my point of view and take on the task was also very positive, I felt like my thoughts and impressions mattered to them - and they always made sure I was enjoying my time and making the most of it, learning and having fun doing so.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The amount of training and insight I have been exposed to on this short placement was absolutely incredible and much greater than I could have hoped for. Everyone was keen on showing me their side of the division's practice, taking time to explain things, walk me through them, and discuss them with me, even allowing me some guided, hands-on practice on easier tasks. Everyone made me feel welcomed, and I could at any time shadow someone, or ask further questions if I wanted to. I always felt like I could turn to a colleague guidance, or even just hints and tips, and they all did contribute to making me feel included and like I was really using my time to learn as much as possible.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The task I was assigned on the placement was a very good exercise in research skills and wider critical reflection, which I am sure will be very helpful in the future in general, and in the short run as I will be writing my dissertation. In addition to that, the exposure and training I have had on the more technical side of the job has made me able to have simply invaluable starting ground for me to build upon. As I am keen on a career in Cyber, even being on this short placement has given me a much clearer picture on all the skills and techniques that will be needed on the day-to-day job, so that now I can take further steps to develop them more on my own. And in any way I am sure that, even if my path didn't lead me to a career in Cyber, the analytical skills and engineering mindset that this week has helped further developing will be a key asset to any position.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The week was designed very clearly and simply. I would mostly work alongside the team, on my own task, with the constant opportunity to shadow anyone in the division. It was very flexible and relaxed, which definitely helped creating a welcoming feeling, and opened up possibilities for me to go and explore particular sides of the job I could be most interested in.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Starting from the location, the offices were incredibly well designed and liveable, and also had nice surroundings. The office was bright and spacious and its designed made it so that the team could easily cooperate on a project. The team was fantastic to work alongside with. They were all very supportive and cooperative with one another, in a great atmosphere of respect, dedication, and mutual help. You could tell just how much each of them loves their job and how they feel it is exciting and new every day. The amount of information sharing and advice circulating is incredible, and everyone is always willing to go through particularly difficult tasks together. There is a seamless line of mutual contribution amongst colleagues, and the best thing was that they actually really enjoyed what they were doing. I have rarely encountered such a positive work environment, one that makes you feel included, valued and part of a real group, which faces exciting challenges and approaches them together.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt that PwC giving girls an opporutnity to approach the business, and especially the tehcnology world from up close is brilliant. It really testifies to their commitment to gender equality and inclusive culture. the scheme in itself was very valuable in giving me a clearer picture of the skills I will need on the day-to-day job, besides actually giving me a solid basis for developing them.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Spending a week with the Cyber Security division really made me understand how the daily work is, what it entails, what is expected of you. I have had, in particular, the chance to assist to incredibly busy and intense days, and the very positive response I have witnessed has really impressed me. In general, I have been able to experience the firm's supportive and welcoming culture, and I have no doubt that I wish to apply for, and gain, a full-time contract with the company.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • While I already knew I was very interested in Cyber Security and I was already considering it as a potential career, I was afraid i would not be fit for the role, and thought it could still be possible that the career would not be fit for me. The scheme made me realise that this is exactly the career I want, and the one which would best align to my skills set while providing every day new challenges and endless opportunities for skills and self development. Experiencing the division's work first-hand dispelled any doubts I might have had, and it 100% made my mind.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The pay PwC offers for the scheme creates equal opportunities, allowing anyone from any background to be able to afford living while on the placement - while learning essential skills for your future in a great firm.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The placement provided the opportunity to really get included in the team and know anyone on it, though due to the short time it wasn't really possible to expand much to knowing people form other divisions other than in internal meetings, which were still a very good opportunity to witness the inner workings of the firm and its business.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking was mostly spontaneous, day-to-day at the workplace, but that might have been just because I was only there for a short time.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I know there are many opportunities for employees to get involved with volunteering, mentorship programs, and gender equality opportunities, but as I was only at the firm for a short time my experience was mostly focused on work.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I have no doubt it would be an invaluable opportunity for anyone interested in technology to get exposed to the utmost degree to the daily work you can find at the workplace, and to develop essential skills and business awareness. My experience has been wholly and utterly positive and I will for sure recommend it to my friends.
