About You
Very much so. The PwC NI Talent Academy was a well packed, thought provoking and highly enjoyable two days - it felt like longer, but in a good way. The team were very approachable, the setting was fabulous, the group of 西瓜视频s involved were great to be around, and the opportunities to ask questions, network, and learn were readily available.
Very much so. To be taken to a 5* hotel is obviously an indicator of how much value the firm puts in investing in potential employees. Not only the location, though, but the attitude of the team, and the partners and directors who came along for the networking dinner, as well. Every single person was friendly, warm, engaging - and genuinely seemed to want to get to know each individual better. Members of the team took time out to chat to everyone individually and see how they were getting on. From a house-keeping point of view, I was very touched at the care taken to ensure my dietary needs were met - someone always ensured that the hotel was providing coeliac and dairy free alternatives for me.
A great deal. The team always ensured we knew what we were doing, when we were doing it, and how we were expected to engage with that particular session. Each seminar provided support and advice towards the next stage of the application process (Interview). All the team were very encouraging and open to questions, providing good solid answers that showed a gret willingness to guide 西瓜视频s.
From an information point of view, the most useful aspect was learning about what PwC does and how; and how available most of the strands are to a wide variety of subject disciplines. This is of assistance in the sense that I truly wouldn't have thought of PwC as a place for a law 西瓜视频 outside of the legal department, prior to the Talent Academy. Skills wise, the most interesting aspect was seeing how the winning debate teams presented their debates. As a law 西瓜视频, I'm used to doing research, so that aspect of preparing for the debate was nothing new, but expriencing the creativity of some of the other groups in presenting was definitely a positive, and something I will take forward.
The Company
Very well indeed. Seminars and group sessions were well broken up with breaks and meal times, allowing for a bit of processing time in between each session. The groups for the different actviities were structured in such a way that those involved got a good chance of meeting at least 75% of the cohort within those sessions; allowing for a real group coherence by the end of the two days. The team had queried beforehand what our two particular interests were (out of the five strands) and while I can't speak for any other participants, my two options were then reflected in the seminar groupings I had on the first day, allowing me to be better informed when discussing PwC's work with the directors at the networking dinner that evening. That was very helpful.
Great craic! Everyone was always positive, the energy was high - even first thing on the second morning, after the social the night before... I just wanted 24 more hours in the day to enjoy it all some more. The team were entertaining and engaged at all times, always available and open; and that atmosphere carried over to the cohort of 西瓜视频s involved, so we all bounced energy off each other.
Once again - being put up in a 5* just about says it all in terms of investment! On a practical level, though; they were excellent. There was a sense that PwC really want each individual member of the academy to succeed through the interview, to placement/internship, to employment. That we wouldn't be there if PwC didn't very much want us to be part of their family. So they ensured that we were given all the tools we would need for that process, as well as other skills, such as debating, along the way.
I never got the sense that the team were in any way hiding anything from us, or glossing over stark realities of working for PwC. There was an honesty about their presentation that was engaging, and believable. To the extent that they could, they gave us a clear picture of daily life at the firm - but obviously, situated in a hotel, doing seminars and projects doesn't give a lived experience of that in the way that shadowing in the business would. However, the Talent Academy didn't pretend that it was going to give the latter, so I don't see that as a negative.
Very much. There was a real sense of coherence from the various team members from the different strands when they were talking about PwC and what it is like to work for the firm, even in very different departments. That was very positive, as it suggested that the company culture permeates every level and every strand; not just some chosen areas. Further, exploring the PwC Professional attributes helped to give a good sense of why the firm has the culture that it does, and what is expected of employees.
Very much so. I went in thinking that it would be a good experience, but that I couldn't really see myself working for PwC, at least not outside of legal. I came away - even by the first night - thinking that I would really like to work for them, and have that PwC experience. It was the seminars and the change to have a good honest chat with a variety of directors and other staff that allowed for that.
Everything Else
Reimbursment of expenses was availabe to all, for travel. Everything in the hotel was covered for.
The networking pre dinner drinks and formal dinner were specifically to that end. Outside of that, the 西瓜视频 recruitment team were always available, and the team members giving the seminars likewise. Further, each debate group had two support staff from PwC, all of whom were relatively recent employees - sp we got a good range of opinions from staff only a year or two employed, right through to partners and directors who have been with the firm for 20 + years.
Great fun! (and I'm not just saying that because my team won the quiz...) A real buzz. My only - very minor - complaint would be that, while we were told we would have time to enjoy the facilities of the hotel (health suite, etc) the reality was that, outside of the seminars, project work, and networking, the social events took up so much time that it was difficult to fit in even a brief bit of R'n'R. But the networking evening, and the quiz, were really enjoyable, and I wouldn't have missed them for a moment.
Yes, the staff were always very informative about these elements. I was especially interested in the charity fundraising opportunities that PwC allows for.
Completely and utterly, without a doubt.
