The Role
I had a wide variety of clients to work on and was given the opportunity to work on different segments of audit and non audit.
Given consistent feedback and was always praised for good work. I always felt part of the team rather than just an intern
Colleagues we always willing to answer questions. The buddy system also allowed me to get guidance on non work related problems
I started with very repetitive tasks that could be rather boring. However, I was given more responsibility and freedom as the internship progressed where I got to interact with the client significantly more than at the start of my internship. I had no work to do for only a couple of days over the 6 weeks. As long as I let my manager know I had completed my work, then they'd assign me a new task. Never did I feel that I was assigned too many tasks to handle.
With all of my clients I was given the opportunity to interact with the client. As an intern, it was expected to get a lot of basis and repetitive tasks. However, on one client, where there was just myself and my colleague, and here I was given a lot of responsibilty, where I spent about 70% of my time going through non audit procedures with the client.
This skills I learnt will be helpful in my further career. I learnt how to handle multiple tasks at once and how to switch from one to the other whilst being able to keep track of what I had already completed. I also learnt how to differ my approach when interacting with different clients. I do no believe the skills I learnt will be applicable to finishing my degree.
The Company
The Bristol office had a fanstic atmosphere. I felt like I could approach other colleagues and discuss problems with them without feeling like I was disrupting everyone else in the office. There was also the option of standing desks if sitting on a chair all day felt strenuous. The atmosphere at some client sites was a bit quiet and intense. This was due to a rapidly approaching deadline.
Personally, I was lucky that I was given clients for the entirety of my internship and I always had work to do. I was given the opportunity to have a chat with a Partner and I always knew where I had to be and when. However, this was no consistent over all the interns. Some had far less work to do and were not booked on to clients for the entirety if their internship.
We received 3 days of training with all PwC interns from across the country at a hotel outside of London. Though this was a fantastic way to get settled in and learn the basics of accounting, each study group focused on different aspects of audit and so we all returned to our officed having learnt different things. We were also given 2 days of training in the office which was fantastic to get to know the layout of the office and to learn the basics of the software PwC uses.
Company Parties/Events
Offered the graduate scheme
The Culture
There was one office party and several Assurance gatherings for a few drinks. Most social events with the other interns were organised amongst ourselves rather than through the firm.
Rent is Bristol can be expensive
The office had a few sports clubs but they were not always at the most convenient times
