    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement throughout the 11 months I was working there. Having the opportunity to work with different teams on different clients, travel to different cities and also learn new things constantly meant my placement was never monotonous but exciting and full of job satisfaction; those are just a few of many reasons why I enjoyed my work placement so much.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone I worked with at PwC made me feel valued. I found that other AS1's relied on eachother initially if they needed guidance (even though everyone of any grade was willing to help), but as time quickly progressed those in a more senior position would coach me through work and praise what I had done while also offering some constructive criticism if needed in a very lighthearted way. This made me feel valued as they took the time out of their busy schedules to help me and praise my work and also wanted to offer me some advice on how to improve my work for my own development.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Working on different teams with people of all grades (AS1, AS2, SA1 etc all the way through to partners) helped ensure that everyone on the team was valued. Even though I was work placement and needed the most coaching when I first joined, there was always someone willing to help me and even when I got stuck after having been there for a while, it was never an issue and I was offered the support and help I needed immediately. The guidance and support I received from my people manager in the first few months of joining the company were incredible and no problem I had was too big or too small.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were periods during my placement where I was extremely busy with work and other times when I was significantly less busy but that is the nature of audit work and provided me with a nice balance throughout the year. I was never bored at work as I always had something to be doing or helping someone else with.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility way beyond what I had imagined prior to joinjng the firm. However I believe being given such responsibility really helped my development come so far in only 11 months. Facing things head on in difficult situations exposes you to a lot and you do learn a lot from those experiences. Despite having the responsibility, there was always someone willing to help you as soon as you needed it if you found the situation too daunting and needed a helping hand - I was never left alone to deal with anything myself which was beyond what I could manage.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Despite doing a science based degree, I learnt a lot from my placement year that will help me with my final year at university. Most importantly the work ethic - being much more driven and having the motivation to get up early and start work, wanting to do my best in every essay submission and assessment as well as the ability to critically analyse my own work and also the confidence to approach people in more senior positions and network which are fundamental for future career development.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was always a nice environment to work in. Everyone was extremely friendly and willing to help and having social break out areas in the office were good spaces to catch up with friends during your lunch break as well as providing a more relaxed atmosphere to meetings with people managers and managers of the team you are working on.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Having a dedicated work placement team to help with any queries specifically related to the work placement scheme meant there was always someone to help with any questions you had. Having placement champs who had completed the placement year a couple of years prior and were now working there as graduates really helped offer an insight into the opportunities after the placement year and meant you could ask questions which you may find intimidating to ask other members of staff.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time and resources into coaching me and helping me throughout the whole 11 months I was working for them. My personal development was always one of the most important things and I felt like it was just as important to those coaching me as it was to myself which was extremely nice. The monitoring of my development through people manager meetings and objectives meant I always felt like I was being stretched to the best of my ability and was very rewarding.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • PwC is such a large company with so many opportunities. During my placement I witnessed first hand just how many different teams and sectors all work cooperatively within PwC to achieve the standard of work they do and the ability of more senior positions to move between different business units for varying amounts of time makes PwC a very attractive future employer as the opportunities and willingness to accommodate these moves was beyond what I had anticipated.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The social scene was definitely an aspect of my placement which made it so enjoyable. Joining with many other graduates and undergraduates meant there were people in the same position as you from the very first day and the relationships you build with you peers are so important. Work drinks on a Friday were always a highlight of the week as your colleagues soon become friends which not only provides a nice atmosphere to work in but means there is always a social aspect to the job after working hours.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London is known to be expensive however I lived at home with parents during my placement year and therefore did not experience the costs of renting a property while on my placement year.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was great with a few bars located on the same road as the office I worked in. In London you are never far from a bar or a restaurant which meant after work there was always a buzz and especially on a Friday when a lot of people working in the city would go for a drink after a busy weeks work. The nightlife was definitely a good end to the week.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • PwC offer a wide range of extra activities ranging from sports teams to volunteering. With so much on offer it is nice to have an option which activities you'd like to participate in and all are good ways to build friendships with PwC staff that you would otherwise not necessarily meet or work with (such as people in different business units).
