The Role
It was a great opportunity. You go through the exactly same process as the graduates who join at the same time as you, you'll undertake the first year of ICAEW exams, learn a lot on the job and meet lots of great people.
You get to know the teams that you're on very quickly and there's lots of office events to meet people who you don't necessarily work with on a day to day basis.
Everyone has a people manager who assists with their development and well-being, you get support from colleagues and also internal services for specific matters.
Some days were very long and busy, occasionally there was not a huge amount to do, but generally speaking there is always something you can be doing and it was busy more often than not.
As mentioned, you go through the exam same process as graduates joining at the same time - the same training, courses and responsibility. You're given a lot of training to aid your development and allow you to do the job, and support throughout, but you're given a lot responsibility and even more if you seek it out.
Undoubtedly a lot. I learnt more in this 11 month placement about Accountancy and business than I had in the first 2 years of my Accountancy degree. People skills, organisation and project management, technical accounting skills and an understanding of business.
The Company
Milton Keynes is one of the smaller PwC offices and the atmosphere is great. Everyone knows each other and there's lots of events to get involved with.
Very organised.
As mentioned, it's exactly the same process as if you'd joined as a grad. I completed the first few ACA exams, which you're given college and time off work to study for, as well as lots of PwC training, E-learns, and on the job development.
Company Parties/Events
I've received a graduate offer.
The Culture
You'll become good friends with the people you join with, and others through out the office. There's frequently events to go to and get involved with.
It's hard for me to say the cost of living - I'd have thought in comparison to elsewhere it's fairly expensive but nothing compared to London. Milton Keynes has a few good bars, lots of restaurants and limited things to do. There's one or two good clubs, but I'd say the nightlife if the one thing that let the place down.
There's one very good club and a couple average ones. The night-life let Milton Keynes down from a social perspective, in my opinion.
Lots of opportunities to get involved in things... Volunteering, weekly football, dragon-boat racing, the PwC games and endless other opportunities in and out of the office.
