The Role
I enjoyed my placement enormasly due to the great work environment and challenge that the work provided.
There was an excellent team spirit which was actively encouraged by PwC through a range of socials. Also you are provided with extensive responsibility which makes you feel very much part of the team.
My people manager was excellent to help guide me to what jobs I had a preference for and actively aided my development with some strong advice.
I was always busy with a high workload which often extended into some very long hours during busy season. Despite this the team spirit and encouragement meant at these hours were not daunting and I particularly enjoyed this time.
I was given the same responsibility as every other associate 1 so therefore was handed ever increasing responsibility over areas of the audit file which became more and more complex. This therefore aided my development hugely.
This placement was not relevant to my degree In terms of content but has provided me with a far better work ethic. Also the skills I have learnt during this year will be taken forward in my career as I rejoin PwC once I have completed my final year at university.
The Company
The atmosphere in the Milton Keynes office was very good with active encouragement from all grades of employees. There was also an atmosphere of you could talk to anyone you wanted and personally I built a strong relationship with the senior partner who shared a particular interest in badminton. He was the perfect example of someone who was extremely senior but was also amazingly friendly.
As my peer group was mostly made up of full time employees the information presented to placement 西瓜视频s was not always relevent and sometimes the difference for placement 西瓜视频s was not clarified. However this was soon rectified and the placement ran very smoothly with great help from my people manager who was very active at finding out all of the necessary information in a prompt manner.
The firm were fantastic the the sense that they trained us placements 西瓜视频s to exactly the same extent as all of the full time associates. Therefore I spent a large amount of time in college studying towards the ACA exams, 7 of which you could sit in the 11 month placement. Also the internal training was very informative and helped shape the portfolio of clients that I wanted to my name.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
PwC offered me a job on my penultimate day of my placement with a roughly month to make up my decision. I am very happy to say that I accepted the offer and am very much looking forward to returning to the company upon the completion of my degree. The only constraint was achieving a 2.1 in my degree. Climbing the ladder at PwC is very transparent and a clear promotion path is ahead of me when I rejoin the company.
The Culture
There were strong bonds between the peer group which was aided by several PwC events and also spending so much time together while at college studying towards the ACA exams. Also there were monthly office events either in the office or at a local bar which encouraged everyone to get together and socialise. However in periods away from exams the peer group saw less and less of each other due to away jobs and long hours.
The rent of my 2 bed flat was expensive but that was simply due to the location I chose very close to the office. I chose this as it allowed maximum flexibility in terms of being at the office for long hours. Otherwise Milton Keynes was not an expensive area which was surprising considering its close proximity to London which was a 35 minute train away. Unfortunately PwC discounts for gyms was harder to access as a placement 西瓜视频 as we did not get 'choices' where this was included.
There were only two clubs in Milton Keynes and only one of which was any good. Therefore it was worth commuting into London for nights out with friends as there was much more variety in places to go despite the high prices. However there were quite a few bards in Milton Keynes which were not bad but did have close to London prices which was disappointing. Overall this was not much of a problem as night life was not a priority when there were many other day activities and hundreds of restaurants which provided ample alternatives.
There were several days which PwC created to help out the local community which were great fun. Also there were the PwC games which got several offices involved competing against each other. I heard this was very entertaining but the client I was assigned to during these days was extremely tight for time to unfortunately I was not allowed to go. Ultimately the business need comes above such social events.
