About You
It was very enjoyable to experience what Consulting is like at PwC. I was able to shadow a female senior manager who was very friendly and helpful, and met lots of interesting people who were all keen to help and answer my questions. It was a shame that due to a bank holiday it was only 4 days. I also had some trouble getting paid at the end of it.
I was able to help various members of staff with some project work, however, as I was only there for 4 days, I don't feel like the work I completed was valued, and one project I completed I did not get a chance to meet with the lady who had set me the project in the first place. However, it was a great experience to get to see lots of different projects, and as I was only there for 4 days, I would not have expected anything more.
The senior manager I was assigned to was really helpful, and gave me support and guidance throughout. I was able to visit a client site on my last day, and she supported me through this and made sure I was comfortable. I also received a lot of guidance from various members of staff before my final interview on the Friday which was really useful.
The skills I developed and information I received have assisted me in my degree as it has enabled me to pick my modules based on the information and skill set I now know I need to go into a Consulting career. The information I received also helped me interview for a graduate position with PwC, which I have now achieved, which has helped me shape my degree and know what I want to do after graduating.
The Company
The insight was fairly well structured, although there was some confusion at the beginning of the week over who was meant to be meeting me and where this meeting was supposed to be taking place. The rest of the week was well structured, and I was able to visit a client site on the last day which was very insightful.
The general atmosphere during my insight was very welcoming and friendly, and staff members at all levels were willing to help answer any questions I had. The office, and the teams I visited were very generous with their time, and seemed genuinely interested about why I was there and what I wanted to achieve during my time and in the future.
As I was only there for 4 days, there was not much opportunity to be "invested in" by the company, but as I have previously mentioned, I was able to visit a client site on the last day of my insight week which was very enjoyable and aided my development in this specific consulting situation.
It was very insightful into what life at the firm is like, and the types of work I would be doing if I joined on to the graduate scheme. It was also very nice to meet the people I would be working with, and learning about the social life that is also available at the firm. Within the 4 days I was at the firm, I learnt a lot about what it would be like, and have since decided to join on the graduate scheme.
The final interview on the Friday was based upon the "PwC Professional" which is very important within the company culture. Throughout all of the tasks I took part in throughout the week, the PwC professional attributes were at the heart of each piece of work, so I was able to clearly distinguish the company culture.
Everything Else
It took ages for me to actually receive the pay that was in my contract, so I was disappointed by this aspect of the week.
Yes, I was constantly introduced to new people throughout the week, and lots of time was put in people's calendars before I arrived. Everyone made time to talk to me and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say and the questions I asked which was refreshing. I very much appreciate the time people gave me during the week.
Yes, I would very much recommend this insight to a friend. It is great to get a short experience of the line of service you initially think you would be suited in. For me, I knew within the 4 days that I wanted to join Consulting, and so this time scale of internship was ideal.
