About You
I was placed with a really friendly senior representative in the Deals section on my women in business programme. I got a lot of exposure to the work that she manages on a daily basis and was informed of the availabilities to progress in the firm. I was able to attend meetings and the availability to progress to the graduate programme is there.
I definitely feel valued during my placement there. This was because I was recognised in the team as someone who could add value and was not there to just 'shadow'. I was given tasks that new joiners would be given when they start their full time job. I was allowed to several meetings with senior representatives, and actually contribute some thoughts and ideas.
-I received a lot of guidance throughout the insight. The programme had a very good balance of structure but also a certain degree of flexibility, which allowed you to rotate in departments outside your selected choice. This meant that you could get maximum exposure to the different divisions and make an informed decision as to which department you were most interested in.
-I was offered a graduate job offer following on from this experience, so as a way of progression doing the Women In Business is an incredible way to progress your studies. The information that I received were not directly relevant to my degree, but instead gave you a real insight into what working at PWC is really like. The communicative skills and analytical skills that I gained from this was very useful for my degree.
The Company
As previously mentioned the structure of the insight had a good balance of structure and flexibility. I was able to spend a day with all the different types of departments within the Deals sector. My senior businesswomen was so helpful and really wanted me to gain as much experience in the short time that I was in PWC.
The general atmosphere I gained there was very positive. Everyone was friendly with each other and think there is real support to get to know everyone through several initiatives including the open desk policy. There is a real emphasis on creating a well balanced work life balance, and caring about a good wellbeing. I encountered very friendly people and came away with a very good impression from PWC.
-The company really did invest in me, as they monitored my progress throughout the programme and I was required to fill out objectives and aims throughout the week. They invested in me after the programme as well, asking for any feedback or suggestions following on from my experience.
This was very much helpful in figuring out what full time roles at PWC entailed. I was shadowing and also speaking to graduates from different departments and they gave me a truthful and real insight as to what was expected of them, and what they had to produce on a day by day basis.
-The content of the day was really helpful in helping me decide whether I wanted to work at PWC. After being offered a graduate job offer, I was certain that PWC was the place for me and that I wanted to be part of their unique and collabrative culture. Would highly recommend PWC.
Everything Else
-There were several opportunities for me to meet other employees. A real emphasis was placed upon this and I appreciated this. I wasn't required to do the same job every single day but in fact was encouraged to network and reach out to other people who could help in deciding whether PWC was right for me
-The networking and social event oppurtunities were perhaps limited. However, this was understandable as it was only a one week placement. Also, the flexibility of when to complete the PWC Women in Business Programme means that there wasn't a specific cohort at one particular time.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. It looks incredible on your CV, as well it being a short but good exposure to the PWC culture and environment. The ability for a graduate job interview after the week is also a very good benefit of completing the programme.
