About You
Having been interested in Corporate Finance from what I had read online, it was really invaluable to experience first hand what it entailed. I was able to shadow a number of personnel within Corporate Finance as well as the other areas which make up deals. It has confirmed to me that this is an area I would like to go into once I've graduated.
Everybody was extremely welcoming on my first day and people made a real conscious effort to get me involved with different aspects of their work, despite me only being there for a short period of time. I was initially worried that I would just get in the way but straight away I realised this wasn't the case.
Upon arriving on my first day, a member of 西瓜视频 recruitment was on hand to help my set-up my laptop and get an access card to the building. IT issues normally plague the first few days of an internship, so it was a pleasant change to receive such support from the beginning and ensured for a smooth transition into starting my insight week. People in my team were always willing to help me with anything I was stuck on when I was doing work for them so they cannot be faulted in the slightest.
It is certainly difficult to gain skills in such a short period of time so it can't really say I developed any significantly. However, as already stated, the insight was invaluable and I will now use this experience when applying for graduate positions as I now have an understanding as to what Corporate Finance entails and the type of work they do.
The Company
I was very fortunate to have a manager who was very hands-on. Despite, not being in the office for my final two days due to client commitments. She had arranged numerous meetings for me beforehand and whilst she was on her travels to ensure I was still receiving an deep insight into the Deals department. Whilst, I wouldn't say it was structured as there was no real plan from the beginning, I was certainly kept busy.
The office was very laid-back and welcoming. Everybody was cracking jokes and I was made to feel I could join. Even the extremely senior staff were very relaxed and willing to have a laugh. This is definitely not the case at other organisations I have experiences with. One associates golfing skills were a running joke all week.
Considering that the only real training I was required to do was a compliance and bribery compulsory training module, I can't really say PWC invested a great deal in my personal training and development. However, that is no fault of PWC as if I had been set a number of compulsory training modules then I would have had less time for shadowing and more useful exercises.
Absolutely, each position within PWC and their role on a project was explained to me in great detail by the respective people at that level. I feel like I have a solid grasp of the type of work I would be doing if I was join the firm full time as a graduate.
I would say I learnt about the inclusivity side of PWC's culture but there wasn't a large number of graduates in the team I was in so I wouldn't say I knew what the culture was like for new joiners.
The week was very helpful in helping me decide on where I will apply for graduate positions. Not only did i spend time in Corporate Finance, but having exposure to Business Recovery Services, Transaction Services, Valuations and Forensics, I was able to identify a number of areas which I would possibly be interested in pursuing a career in.
Everything Else
There wasn't any after work opportunities to network with my team but I did go out for drinks one evening with the other interns so I was able to strengthen my relationships with them and find out about the departments they were working in. During work time I was regularly introduced to people from different departments which was useful.
n/a as only there for a week and there was only 2 other interns.
I forgot to ask these type of questions as I was too focused on finding out about work related stuff since I was only there for a short period of time.
Most definitely, it is an excellent experience to include on your CV as PWC are a huge and highly respected company in the industry. I have been fast tracked for a partner interview for a graduate position, however I would say for the insight alone that the programme is worth applying for.
