    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found my work placement very enjoyable. The projects are interesting and the environment very friendly. Of course there鈥檚 always some dull tasks you have to do, but overall, it was a very pleasant experience. Depending on the projects you are on, you could be travelling on a weekly basis which is always fun.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I think one of the outstanding aspects about PwC is the amount of responsibility handed down from the very start. This certainly helps me feel more than just an 鈥渋ntern鈥 and also, gives your colleagues a reason to value you. Overall, the level of responsibility taken on gives the impression you are as valuable as any other employee within the firm.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You can sometimes feel out of depth, especially when first starting out on a new engagement. It is quite reassuring to know that there is always someone you can go back to if you need support or guidance. Although, everyone is always quite busy with their own tasks, they will always find some time whenever you really need help.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This is obviously different for each placement 西瓜视频 because its highly dependent on the project you鈥檙e on. From a personal perspective, I鈥檝e often found myself either barely doing anything for the whole day or extremely busy to the point you have to work overtime, which happens often. Balanced days were rare.

    1/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The level of responsibility given, event to placement 西瓜视频s, from the very start is impressive. I have come across a manager who micro-managed everyone on the team, but in general, you鈥檙e given ownership of a task or role. From my personal experience, the scope of responsibilities really is unlimited. The more you can handle and ask for, the more you get!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The majority of the technical or technology related training completed has little relevancy to my degree subject. I have developed a number of skills from experience, as well as formal training sessions, that will help me in my final year of study. I believe these skills will also be transferrable to any career path I end up in.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very good, professional atmosphere in general. If you鈥檙e in Consulting and work in the office, it tends to be very quiet since most colleagues are on client-site. Work colleagues are very nice and supporting and there鈥檚 always something going on in terms of social or charity and volunteering events to participate in.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement structure is very good in my opinion. There is dedicated time for training at the start and then a report and presentation to a board of senior staff members at the end. In between, it really depends on the projects available at the time. Sometimes, you can be sitting on the bench for a few weeks just waiting for something to come up, but there鈥檚 usually some business development pieces of work to take on to fill the time.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It really felt like the company valued placement 西瓜视频s as much as they did graduates or any other associate. Almost all training opportunities and certifications made available to them, were also open to us. In terms of roles on projects, you are also given the same level of responsibility and expectations as the associates.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are very good within the firm. There usually isn鈥檛 a quota as far as I am aware for placement 西瓜视频s to receive a graduate offer, so as long as you perform well, you are almost guaranteed a graduate job offer. Transferring to a different office will require you to sit through a final interview again.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The intakes within this PwC office were quite large, and included both graduates and placement 西瓜视频s. The social life was very good. Aside from team socials and company events, the social scene outside of work was also very active. This really adds to the placement in terms of enjoyment and amiability.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Belfast is a very cheap city to live in, in terms of both maintenance costs as well as rent. Sadly, this is also reflected in the wages. So while you can maintain a decent quality of life and everything is quite cheap, the salaries are also the lowest amongst the regions.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Belfast is quite active with a number of pubs and clubs in the city centre. It is not as active as some of the larger cities however and can get very quiet during the week. The company also organises drinks every first Friday at a hotel close-by.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. There were a number of opportunities throughout the year to get involved with a number of different charity and volunteering events. This included marathons, funds collecting for example. There are also some sports teams to get involved in, although you have to be proactive in setting them up or finding one to join.
