    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my work placement at PwC. The people were extremely friendly and I felt very welcomed into the office. I found the experience to exceed my expectations. I enjoyed the variety of work I was given, working in a team and getting to know the other interns. Some of the work that those senior to me were involved in was extremely complicated, however that allowed me to challenge myself and broaden my knowledge

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I received lots of support from my superiors. I was assigned a buddy for the duration of the internship. He was great in assigning me work to do and encouraging other people to get involved. It was also really helpful to have someone to go to for work and non-work related questions. Most of the managers in my department were great at getting me invovled with projects. They gave up a lot of time to explain the work that I needed to do, explain the background to the case and answer any questions I had.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In the first week of the internship, there were a couple of days where I didn't have that much to do. However, as time went on and people realised that I really wanted to get involved I began to get assigned a lot of work. I think is helped by having a proactive approach to getting work to do. I often put on the noticeboard that I was available for work and went and asked people if there was anything I could help with.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think I was given a fair amount of responsibility for an intern. I was very rarely asked to be involved in non-chargeable work. It was great to be involved in projects and then see the final draft. Almost 100% of my work ended up being sent to clients or HMRC. The more I was involved in tasks and the more work I did, the more responsibility I was given. I think I was given, almost, the same amount of responsibility as an associate would have.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learned so much during my internship. And this learning is not restricted to my chosen line of service. My knowledge of the oil and gas industry has broadened. Furthermore, my business accumen has also developed. The internship has enouraged me to take an interest in business current affars.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the Aberdeen office is extremely friendly! Everyone was extremely sociable and I never had a day that really dragged. There are also no walls between different levels of seneority. Everyone was willing to help everyone. Everyone works really hard and you are encouraged to work hard too due to the enjoyable atmosphere. It it quite a laid back atmosphere, which is really reassuring when you are joining a group of new people.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was overall really well organised. It would have been helpful for the local offices to set up a couple of days where you had the opportunity to spend it in another department. The trips to London were extremely well organised. There were weekly emails from the recruitment team reminding you of any tasks that had to be completed.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Most of the training and development I received was on the job in Aberdeen. Due to the internship being only 6 weeks, there was little time for training. In terms of the firm investing in their interns, all the interns across the UK spent the first three days in London. This was a great opportunity to meet the other interns and two out of the three days were spent giving you an introduction to tax. This was helpful when starting the internship.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • On the last day of my internship I was offered a graduate job after my last year at University. This is obviously an amazing employment prospect of doing the internship. Going back into your last year at University with a graduate offer feels amazing. Within the firm itself, it is clear that opportunities to travel and move across lines of service are available.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Due to the dates of my internship, I got to go along with the tax department to a Highland Games event that was setup for tax Scotland. This was a great opportunity to see my colleuges in a different setting and it really helped me get to know them better. It was also a great opportunity to meet colleuges from the Edinburgh and Glasgow offices.
