The Role
I had a fantastic experience working for PwC over the six weeks. I feel as though I learned so much about the financial world that you simply don't get taught at University. I also met some great people who were always willing to help me should I have any issues with a task. Most importantly, it's re-affirmed my belief that this is the career path that I want to follow.
I always felt valued by my colleagues during each engagement. I always received a lot of support during tasks, but was also trusted with completing a number of activities whilst also speaking to the client. This showed that my team members not only valued me, but had faith in my ability to complete a task to a good quality. My team members also tried to keep me on an engagement longer than I was booked for which suggested that I was valued by them as a team member.
Support and guidance was always made available to me when I needed it. When I had issues with the clients I was booked on or my other engagements, my people manager was always there to help and sort out any potential dilemmas. When at a client or in the office, all of my colleagues were more than willing to help me out with any procedural or technical query. Therefore, there was always support there when I needed it.
I was often really busy during the day, however not to the point where I was working silly hours. I was given plenty of different tasks and responsibilities which made sure that I wasn't sitting still watching the day go by. This made the days seem to fly by and ensured that I was never bored. However, they do not expect interns to be doing any significant overtime and when possible will advise you to finish a task the next day.
I was given a wide range of responsibilities during the internship. Not only was I given the responsibility of completing a number of key tasks on my own, but I was also responsible for communicating with the client and requesting information. Despite this sometimes feeling like a bit of a pressure, I feel that this has given me a much better idea of what the modern business environment looks like.
The skills and knowledge I gained on this internship has already significantly helped me with my final year at University. It has helped me to pick my class list for next year as I am more aware of what classes will give me the information I will use more regularly in the real working world. It is also helping me to decide which subject to complete my dissertation on next year.
The Company
There was a great atmosphere in my office. There is a really diverse range of staff from all ages and many different nationalities. This was great to be a part of as it helped me to gain many different perspectives on issues. The office layout is really open plan which encourages good communication between colleagues which gives the office a friendly atmosphere.
The internship was really well organised as I always had something to do and was never treated as the intern who makes teas and coffees. I was given a wide range of tasks and responsibilities across a variety of clients which allowed me to gain knowledge in a variety of areas and I was always encouraged to look for other work should I have finished my tasks. Therefore, the internship was organised brilliantly.
Sports and Social Club
There are strong and appealing job prospects at the end of an internship with PwC. I was delighted to receive a job offer on my final day, so assuming I get the required grade in my final year at University I am excited to return next September. By spending six weeks in the firm, you get to know a lot of the staff and processes so it will be much easier coming back next year than it would be starting for the first time. Therefore, the job prospects at the end of the internship is another reason I would recommend this program.
The Culture
There is activities for everyone to get involved in at the PwC office outside of work. There are various sports teams that are competitive and non-competitive. There is also volunteering opportunities that people are encouraged to take part in to help local causes. Staff also regularly meet up for drinks and dinners outside of working hours.
