The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. It was a really good job with everyone supporting you and trusing you and actually giving you some real responsibilities.
Being valued by everyone was the best thing about PwC ever, because these people really place trust on someone they see for the first time in their life.
The support was awesome. It was the right balance between no support and too much support.
There were days where we I was less busy especially towards the last days of the audit but generally the balance was very good.
I was given lots of responsibilities. Sometimes I was trusted with the entire audit of small subsidiaries except for significant risky areas that needed the attention of a senior member of the team.
After a year at PwC, I believe I will smash it at University.
The Company
We were sitting in different social groups and working in different audit teams. The fun around the office never stopped because most of the colleagues are friends with one another and they have alwas made jokes. There was a competition between the social groups and quizzes and actually it was an awesome atmoshere. The reason I voted 9 is because between January and February when it was busy season the jokes were not that many but they still never stopped.
Having spoken to many friends that did a placement year, the year in PwC was a lot better organised. We actually had a plan of what was going to happen for the first 3 months, which was given to us on the first day. We had a really good induction and very well organised training sessions to really get us going.
The firm treated me like a graduate associate. They invested heavily on my development by sending me to college to train for the ACA qualification and by paying for my exams. They did not only pay for them but they organised them during weekdays giving us time off, which is an amazing thing that smaller firms would not do.

They are very appealing because one can learn a lot in PwC and one can also benefit from lots of opportunities and promotions. Once you are in PwC you get the opportunity to do secondments not only in PwC's Global Network but also with some of PwC's clients. I received a job offer from them.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene. Everyone was friends with one another and everyone actually enjoyed working with one another. The people that are in PwC is what is making PwC great in my opinion and partners understand that and they keep on saying that 'PwC is people's business". The realitionships between people were awesome.
I lived in the city centre of Birmingham. I went to University in Birmingham's city centre so I am quite used to the place. The salary that PwC paid was enough to cover for rent, food, clothes and drinks and meals with colleagues. Birmingham being the second largest city in England, had many clubs and restaurants where we could really enjoy ourselves.
Birmingham being the second largest city in England, had many clubs and restaurants where we could really enjoy ourselves. Broad Street and The Arcadian have got some really good bars and cubs, where actually went out with colleagues and friends from outside work. I think the Nightlife opportunities were actually fantastic. I would recomment Birmingham to anyone.
Again as the questions above, Birmingham is the second largest city in the United Kingdom and as such it has endless opportnities to socialise or get in different activities. One could join one of the many gyms or go to play different sports in the Aston Univeristy's sports hall. One could join in one of the local teams for cricket, tennis or table tennis or participate in the Birmingham marathon.
